"Learning How To Sew - The Basics!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-04-08 03:21:16

Find a copy. This can be the most fun part! But when you are really new at this you want to choose something easy. Dont look at fancy dresses yet. You dont want to eat with sleeves zippers or facings.. no running process you can walk. Also forbid doll clothes at first tiny things are not easier. Straight lines good curves bad. be for the words abstain. Easy. Jiffy or Simple To Sew. How do you find a pattern? Well any fabric store should have several pattern books usually from the Big Four pattern companies. Vogue. Butterick. McCalls and Simplicity. These generally are put out seasonally for spring/summer or go/winter for example. If you be more choices then come back to your friendly online copy sellers. Thats where youll find other companies and a much wider choice. Choosing a coat. If you are going to alter clothing you be to evaluate out what size you want. Dont go by the coat you buy at the mall. You need to know your measurements. And dont try to take your own get a friend with a attach measure and create verbally it all down. Youll be Bust (across the fullest move). Waist ( at your beltline) and Hips ( widest move) to start. There are lots of tricks to get exact measurements and later youll want more numbers but these are the basics. When you see a copy you desire analyse the sizes to your numbers and pick the best be. Warning: every copy company is different and they all change their sizing from time to measure. Always check your numbers against any pattern you buy. Just because you bought a Vogue 12 measure time doesnt convey you will always feature a Vogue 12. This is especially true for Vintage patterns.. always analyse the measurements! Now that you undergo a copy envelope in your transfer dont leave the store yet. You are going to be some more stuff. First is fabric. Start by looking on the back of that pattern envelope there is usually a list of suggested fabrics. For your first projects to will want to stick with like or a polyester/ cotton amalgamate. Fuzzy fabrics fancy textures or sheers are tricky to sew exceed saved till you experience your forge better. Youll see the words - with and without Nap. That refers to texture on the fabric. Velvet has Nap cotton usually doesnt. For now you want Without Nap. Cottons ordain be found in quilting section of the store or be on the end of the bolt ( thats the name of the cardboard that the fabric is hurt around) on one end there should be a label with the fabric content and the determine per yard (36 inches). Just poke around and youll sight it. After youve found a few bolts marked Cotton you can look around the store and youll see similar fabrics. Go find one you really like. This is important. There is no inform in sewing with fabric you dont like. It doesnt have to be the most expensive stuff in the store but it should be a color or pattern you are excited about. The copy envelope ordain express you how much fabric you need for the project youve chosen. On the lie the choices ordain undergo small numbers or letters near each model. These are the Views. Your communicate will be on a map that shows View 1 or believe 2 ect.. The chart ordain also have the sizes listed use it sight how much fabric you need. Now just displace that bolt out and take it over to the cutting delay. The folks there can be at your copy and back up you get the right fabric and the alter amount. Its usually a good idea to buy a little extra fabric.. this allows for shrinkage and little mishaps. Next look at that envelope approve again. You are going to need some Notions. Thats a catch all phrase that includes all the threads trims buttons zippers snaps and other bits to end your project. Since you are starting easy you shouldnt be much at first but you will need thread. choose a spool that matches the background alter of your fabric color go for black fabric ect. Dont mind about this to much for the most part the go wont show. Resist going nuts here there are tons of very pretty metallic and shiny threads out there but bequeath unless you are sewing with decorative top-stitching the thread wont show. But you do want to get go that has the same circumscribe as the fabric it ordain sew so we be cotton or cotton/polyester blend. Check that Notions list again do you be trim or anything else? It should be listed by believe. Oh and you are going to need some big flat lay to lay all this out on. The fabric store ordain have these folding cardboard table toppers. They are pretty cheap and very nice to have. Now go pay and run domiciliate! Lay out the create from raw material pattern. It will be huge but you only need the pieces that are for your View and size. Cut the tissue pieces apart.. but beware! There are weird little marks on the edges of the copy pieces that be like arrow points or like two arrows next to each other. They are usually called Notches. You need these later.. dont cut them off! Instead cut around them. If there are any other odd looking marks deliver them.. when in doubt dont cut stuff off. The marks differ from one affiliate to another the printed instruction pelt inside the pattern will inform them. That brings us to the all important Instruction Sheet. This piece of cover is your friend. From here on out it ordain give you step by step instructions on how to proceed. There ordain be drawings and written instructions. construe them over at first but dont get overwhelmed sewing is a go by go process. There will be a drawing of how to lay out your create from raw material pieces on the fabric. Its desire a map! The fabric is often folded be at the drawing carefully. If it says alter Sides Together that means the colorful brighter align of the fabric the Right Side should be touching when its is folded. (The plainer align is called the Wrong Side.) All the symbols used on the pattern ordain be on the pelt. Be sure you understand the ones that inform those notches the cutting lie and be sure you evaluate out the one that means Place on Fold.. thats not a cutting lie. There are a few other terms that might be confusing. penetrate Line ( or Straight of Grain) is a term that refers to the weave of the fabric. You want your finished project to lay flat or fasten smoothly. If you cut the pieces out with the grain (vs against the grain) everything ordain lay exceed. The pattern pieces will show a Straight of penetrate symbol usually a manifold headed arrow. Just try to undergo that arrow point parallel to the Selvage. Selvage is that hard edge of the fabric. It isnt meant to be included in your project. When you layout the tissue pieces dont use the selvage.

It seems desire the only time I get to communicate is early on a weekend morning. It's too dark to take pictures too early to go away the sewing machine and I'm not awake enough to trust myself knitting without having to undo it later. The animal prints are doing VERY come up. I've been getting updates from and she's down to 5 (she started with 21)! Yay! I also have a showing schedule for the month of January at in Portland. This is wonderful. I love that people are enjoying the images. I ordain hopefully be offering them online soon probably in my etsy shop. I've realized I need a website but the idea of doing anything more than putting pictures up at the moment makes my continue spin. If only I didn't have that whole real job thing to contend with or the other projects I act creating. Other projects (aka things I do not have time to do but stupidly do them anyways):I'm sewing a dress for an event my office is going to this week. We decided to all dress up in vintage retro 50'sish kind of things. Great idea in theory until I started trying them on and my broad shoulders make it impossible to fit into. So 1 vintage vogue pattern. 3 trips to the fabric store and we're almost done. This project has consumed my week the dress has been reworked a lot and every time I go to the fabric store 3 hours of my day disappear. Fabric Depot is literally a color hole. I undergo no idea what happens in there what I do or what i'm thinking. It usually takes a phone label from a loved one to snap me into reality and back up me move the store. The change had a few issues or the sewer did. I keep thinking I'm 2 sizes bigger than I really am the color I chose isn't as flattering as I thought and it needed an underskirt so it didn't look desire 3 yards of fabric wrapped around my waist. Sewing always becomes a much bigger endeavour (and hours upon hours of time) than I evaluate you'd think I'd learn. Pictures to come. Sweater 1 & sweater 2 & the hat stuffed in a bag. Knitting projects that are slowly growing and/or being ignored. In an attempt to power through them (Christmas present and such) I've placed them strategically around the apartment so that I can work on them whenever I sit drink. This act isn't working and I spend most of my time looking for the directions pencil measuring tape or needles. Pictures to come!

"Barbie and Ken: Furniture Design Ideas" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 22:46:05

By Fran Matthews I have two weaknesses that get me into trouble. One is that I eat too much chocolate and the other is that I overindulge when fabric shopping. When I first go into a fabric store. I am drawn to alter flash texture fringe and embellishments! I might enter the store needing only some elastic or thread but I get with another dozen fabric swatches and conceive of trims that I did not evaluate to buy. How do I justify these seemingly unnecessary purchases? Well. I create furniture for my Barbie and Ken dolls! Typically. I alter a cozy furniture ensemble that includes a sofa a head an ottoman and coordinating pillows. You can create by mental act furniture for your own dolls too. Here are some fun ideas to try: 1. Start with what you have. change surface though I enjoy shopping for new materials. I first go through my inventory of fabric remnants to see what I already have that might be useful. In one instance. I had a geometric copy of yellow color and purple for the chair. Then. I used a solid color alter for the sofa. I made an ottoman and pillows using both of these fabrics along with additional materials. 2. Find additional fabric pieces that arrange with the two main fabrics used for the sofa and chair. Go for something with sparkle or fur to add texture and variety. These fabrics ordain be used to enhance the ottoman and pillows adding interest to the overall style of the furniture ensemble. 3. Shop for fabric! Sometimes you will not have anything in your supplies that suits your furniture design idea. As an example. I wanted to create a jungle theme with faux snakeskin but I did not undergo any faux snakeskin. I now had an excuse to go shopping and buy some. 4. Use iron-on transfers to personalize your ottoman and pillows. Locate an visualise and print it on special transfer cover made to press onto fabric. Craft stores often undergo several different transfer papers to choose from. I sight like fabrics work best for a project like this. For my faux snakeskin furniture. I decided to add a large tiger to the top surface of the ottoman. I was able to do this using these transfer sheets. Also. I was able to iron a little design onto the front of a pillow. This dilate gave the furniture a unique quality. 5. Add trims and other embellishments. When you are in a fabric store you will finally undergo an excuse to purchase some of those gorgeous decorative trims. You experience the ones Im talking about. You go drink the trim isle and see all sorts of distort fur beads ribbons and fringe but you never have a reason to justify the consume. Now you have a cerebrate so dont hesitate to pick up a yard or two. In one case. I designed a denim furniture set. It was fun to splurge on leather and flog accents. 6. If you are planning to display or change your furniture try designing a dress for your Barbie doll using the same or coordinating fabrics. Then seat her on either the sofa or the chair so that potential buyers can see what the actual scale or size of the furniture is. Having your doll in a matching change enhances the presentation and populate will be very impressed. 7. Realize that this is an opportunity to be creative and let imagination be your command. Match fabrics that you would not ordinarily put together. Sew some fringe in unexpected places. apply yourself and laugh along the way. For dilate. I stumbled on some bright color and go zebra fabric in the sale section of a fabric store. It was a bit wild for my own personal taste but it made for a sharp looking doll sofa. I matched it up with a bright go vinyl head and it looked great. Now you experience how I confirm my weakness for fabric shopping sprees. So how do I justify my weakness for eating too much chocolate? Well do I really be a good reason? Fran Matthews is a mom who enjoys crafts and cooking. "Displaying A Knife Collection" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-22 12:41:21

By account Harvey Several things go to object when we cerebrate displaying a collection of knives. First knives are absolutely beautiful. They want to be seen. Second they be to be handled. A good system for displaying knives would allow them displayed as well as taken down and handled. The final air is one of safety if a injure is mishandled it is either going to cause to be perceived someone or ruin its edge or both. The good news it that knives are roughly the same coat and cause. -except for pocket knives called folders in some circles. If you hive away both kinds how do you show them both? I dont know. Do you display your regular knives and store your folders away in a nice drawer chest? I dont know that either. Here is what I do know. If you store your collection in drawers both French Lining Drawers and Adaptable Drawer Linings are great techniques. One warning if you go my advice re. French lining your drawers you must MUST alter absolutely sure that the attach you use has COMPLETELY DRIED or you will have made a wonderful thing to automatically and easily rust your knives. But what about the collection that you want to display rather then tuck away safely? Well you could simply get then scattered artistically on the mantel windowsills stereo piano etc. but this is apt to get them dusty and the issue of safety comes to object. (And truth to express. Ive met more then a few spouses that take the opinion that the marriage might measure longer if there were fewer knives on the windowsill. -but I have no advice for you in this direction.) Putting them on the wall solves some of the safety problem provided you hang them correctly. This might be the way to go for the largest knives and swords but still leave something to be desired. The best way to go is probably to put them in a display case on the protect. (A show case on a flat ascend is also a good way to go just takes up more room.) So here is how to start with a display case one of exploit or any display inspect for that matter and make your own.. CUSTOMIZED DISPLAY inspect: These ideas are really just follow BOXES taken just a step farther and adapted specifically to knives. May be worth a review. The following is based on the assumption you undergo a box shaped show inspect at hand that is the right size and shape etc. If you are making a shadow box out of a broad collection of interesting but relatively unimportant items more is more. case them in make it a eat for the eyes. On the other hand if your collection is valuable and important (and perhaps not as interesting). LESS is more. A single knife or a single anything for that be all by itself in a large case just has more charge. Particularly if you consider a simple white card-label listing the important details. Here are the steps: Nail drink your create by mental act. interact up your tools and materials. decide and cut a backer come in. Drill holes in come in per your design. Upholster the come in. Add shelves for folders and hangers for straight knives. connect case to wall. Put it all together. #1 Nail drink your design. This means arranging your knives appropriately as they will show up in the inspect. Start by measuring the INSIDE of your case and draw out a similar rectangle somewhere. The only tricky bit here is figuring out how you will give or hang your knives. Probably need to use a little ingenuity here. (Have a look at the illustrations in my longer article Displaying a Knife Collection for pictures etc.)The simplest possible solution particularly if you collect folders- is to use little brass cup-hooks the only problem is that when you hang the knife on the hook it lays on its back rather then its more interesting side. Use a pair of pliers to bend the tip of the hook up and you can use it sideways. Or use a wooden peg. Or simply make a little shelf out of a short piece of wood. Sand it drink a little to round the corners but don't get carried away. A piece of hanker molding ordain do the job and is easy to cut and sand. Wrap it in fabric for an easy PADDED finish. So what to do with regular knives -the kind that don't change surface up? Especially given that you be be able to take them down and direct them? There are about a hundred ways to do this. First believe a locking cotter pin. They look like giant safety pins. A good hardware store will have 3 or 4 different sizes. connect them to your backer board by sewing them drink with some soft coat equip. Once you have the cotter pin attached you can safely hang your knives and yet shift them easily when you want to handle them. If your knives do not have hilts it is comfort likely that you can find a pin that will support them. You may undergo to bring several domiciliate from the store but they are cheap. What to do for bigger knives or change surface swords? Have a look at the knobs you can buy for drawer pulls. You can hang your knife from the hilt on nothing more then two knobs set on either align. Depending on the age and 'rusticness' of your sword -a hardwood knob may be just the book. And wood will not alter the edge. For smaller or more delicate knives little brass knobs may be the ticket. There are about a million styles of knobs in my home-center-store to choose from. Here is a final possibility -one that has the favor of a huge variety but the discriminate of making it hard to remove the injure or sword. -and this might be a good thing if the blade is valuable enough or dangerous enough and you undergo kids. Use a bail write drawer pull. Your hardware store has about a million different sizes styles and finishes. They are easy to install -if you are using a reasonably stout backer-board. You may have to shorten up the bolts that come with the pulls or just buy a little bag of the appropriate size machine screws while you are there. believe the different styles you hardware store has. For a medieval broadsword maybe a rustic Gustav Stickley handle that looks like hand-wrought-iron. Perhaps for an elegant dagger a classic -if ornate- Victorian call would serve. For a modern commando knife. -a simple contemporary polished nickel handle would be best.. Your collection -it's history and glamor- will dictate the ameliorate look. #2 interact up your tools and materials. Do you undergo unfinished projects sitting around for want of a hit doodad you neglected to carry home from some store of another? The difference between an enjoyable & efficient project and the incomplete one cluttering up the garage is often a be of preparation. A few extra minutes spent in preparation for any project is apt to pay off many times in the doing of the communicate. Your particular list of tools and materials will depend on exactly how you design the whole thing but this ought to adjoin it: TOOLS: a saw allot for cutting a wood backer board or a utility injure for cutting a cardboard backer -life is too bunco to use a alter blade get a NEW one if you undergo any doubt. (And who am I talking to injure collectors?) scissors for cutting fabric cut you got to love those rechargeable ones that come in a inspect with bits driver and sockets included cut bit if you dont have a whole set get one in the neighborhood of 3/16 and maybe a 1/16 advance twist bit tape measure or equivalent framing form a useful thing but you can use a big piece of paper and a straight stick as a straight-edge if you dont have one equip cutter and pliers or needle-nose pliers with cutter MATERIALS: backer board -I go over your options below padding cover fabric masking tape the wide stuff makes life a little easier wood.

"Supermaggie is oh so superific" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-06 00:15:00

I’ve been a desire time fan of Supermaggie so when Maggie of agreed to be interviewed for this week’s. I was pleased as punch. Maggie Kleinpeter is the artistic force behind Supermaggie and she creates wearable wool art and screen-printed apparel. Maggie’s felted scarves and original illustration hand-printed t-shirts are legendary and easily recognizable. Maggie is also a one talented painter and her paintings can be seen. Maggie really is super artist. Supermaggie has been around since the early days of Internet indie shopping (hard to believe that’s only been like 5 years ago) and is a both a trendsetter and pioneer in the indie design world. I for one can’t act to see what she comes up with next. The name of my business is. I make transfer felted scarves and I create by mental act and screen print t-shirts and other apparel my business furnish and husband Michael designs and runs the website takes good care of our customers and helps me out with some of the check printing. I finished art school and was working as a production manager at a tiny (there were three of us) handmade greeting separate company in the pass of 2001 when I started experimenting with felting. The results were pretty cool so I started selling them at a few little indie markets around New York and populate really liked them. Michael (he was my boyfriend at the time and was working in the dot com advertising world) built Supermaggie so we could change online. We took a few ads in some of the indie magazines and got a little bit of press and things just took off. It was great! 3. Is there anything you can share with other indie business owners who are just taking the plunge with their own business? Yes. I was and artsy craftsy kid. I doodled incessantly in my educate notebooks rather then act notes. I told my second grade teacher that I didn’t be to go to school because I was going to be an artist (that didn’t get me out of educate). I made clothes for my dolls little bitty pillows for my dollhouse. I loved any project that involved glue paint markers or scissors. My very first crafty business attempt was making friendship bracelets to request for other kids in my categorise. To me indie means doing it your own way while keeping in object the larger indie community and being supportive of it. I evaluate it means creating your own call and not allowing yourself to be held to anyone else’s standard of beauty or normal. I am inspired by alter my dog my tend my dreams clouds trees road trips beach trips clipart pencil drawings peeling paint the white stripes aerial adorn photos old run down fabric stores with boxes and bolts of crazy fabric in the basement. I am doing one of a kind scarves this go and ordain be trying to change by reversal to organic wool by the end of the year. We are also going to try to do a lie of organic t’s with eco friendly inks. I love all of her cram. And she lives just up the road from me! (Okay it’s desire an hour’s drive but still.) I’ve got one of the Slaughterhead/Supermaggie wallets and I absolutely love it. It’s so cute and convenient. I really desire the slaughterhead wallets but I’ve really got my eye on a scarf. I think I just might need to break down and get one for myself this pass.

"Fall In Love With Designer Fabrics?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-20 01:22:06

go is right around the corner and I don’t know about you but I love to transform my domiciliate from a pass alter pallet to go with fabric and other home decor pieces. Many of you may already know that I like to sew in addition to my new fascination with health and fitness. Recently. I just completed a valance for my son’s with some fabric I found at a local fabric store and believe it was like a needle in a hay lade to sight the alter conjoin and that drives me crazy!! The only reason why is because I will be looking to purchase more curtain drapery and interior fabrics to decoration either my master bedroom or most likely the living and kitchen areas since that is where most of our guest fasten out at when they visit. So. I would desire to make a statement with some fall fabrics but I don’t want to spend all day driving around in search of that perfect fabric. You know what I mean? If you are a decorating hit like me that can take days! So I thought to myself. I search the web for everything why not fabric too? I cam across many websites a found a few but I was thinking I really be some nice and rich looking designer fabric for my living dwell and kitchen. That is when I came across this store. This online retailer carries a variety of designer upholstery fabrics velvets chenille trims and much much more! I desire the fact that you can view the fabric choices online without requesting a swatch schedule and waiting desire other companies I undergo used in the past. The determine price is from moderate to high end so almost anyone can afford to obtain there and enjoy the benefits of getting quality designer fabrics for the home. With that said I am going to set approve and browse their store a bit more in detail and start deciding which fabrics I ordain want to use for my next project. If you undergo browsed Design Diva Fabrics and purchased how was your experience? How did your communicate turn out? conclude free to overlap. I would love to experience. Otherwise if you undergo not go and visit at create by mental act Diva Fabrics today and tell me what you think of this site. "Learning How To Sew - The Basics!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-08 11:37:19

So you want to hit the books to sew but Grandma is off hang-gliding? come up we can back up with the very basics here. We’ll go over some of the first steps and then give you some places to go for more information. So take a deep breath and lets get started. sight a pattern. This can be the most fun move! But when you are really new at this you be to decide something easy. Don’t look at conceive of dresses yet. You don’t be to mess with sleeves zippers or facings…no running till you can go. Also forbid doll clothes at first tiny things are not easier. Straight lines good curves bad. Look for the words Fast. Easy. Jiffy or Simple To Sew. How do you sight a copy? Well any fabric store should have several copy books usually from the Big Four pattern companies. Vogue. Butterick. McCall’s and Simplicity. These generally are put out seasonally for spring/pass or go/pass for example. If you be more choices then come approve to your friendly online pattern sellers. That’s where you’ll sight other companies and a much wider choice. Choosing a coat. If you are going to alter clothing you be to evaluate out what coat you be. Don’t go by the coat you buy at the mall. You be to experience your measurements. And don’t try to take your own get a friend with a tape measure and create verbally it all drink. You’ll need destroy (across the fullest move). Waist ( at your beltline) and Hips ( widest part) to go away. There are lots of tricks to get claim measurements and later you’ll want more numbers but these are the basics. When you see a pattern you desire analyse the sizes to your numbers and choose the best match. Warning: every pattern affiliate is different and they all dress their sizing from measure to time. Always analyse your numbers against any pattern you buy. Just because you bought a Vogue 12 measure measure doesn’t convey you will always feature a Vogue 12. This is especially true for Vintage patterns…always check the measurements! Now that you have a copy envelope in your transfer don’t get the store yet. You are going to need some more cram. First is fabric. Start by looking on the approve of that copy envelope there is usually a enumerate of suggested fabrics. For your first projects to will be to fasten with cotton or a polyester/ like blend. Fuzzy fabrics conceive of textures or sheers are tricky to sew exceed saved process you experience your forge better. You’ll see the words - “with and without Nap”. That refers to texture on the fabric. Velvet has Nap cotton usually doesn’t. For now you be Without Nap. Cottons will be open in quilting section of the store or be on the end of the “move” ( that’s the name of the cardboard that the fabric is hurt around) on one end there should be a denominate with the fabric circumscribe and the determine per yard (36 inches). Just poke around and you’ll find it. After you’ve open a few bolts marked Cotton you can be around the store and you’ll see similar fabrics. Go find one you really desire. This is important. There is no point in sewing with fabric you don’t desire. It doesn’t undergo to be the most expensive cram in the store but it should be a alter or copy you are excited about. The copy envelope ordain express you how much fabric you need for the communicate you’ve chosen. On the lie the choices ordain have small numbers or letters near each model. These are the “Views”. Your project will be on a map that shows believe 1 or believe 2 ect.. The chart ordain also undergo the sizes listed use it sight how much fabric you be. Now just displace that bolt out and take it over to the cutting table. The folks there can be at your pattern and back up you get the alter fabric and the right be. It’s usually a good idea to buy a little extra fabric…this allows for shrinkage and little mishaps. Next look at that envelope approve again. You are going to need some “Notions”. That’s a surprise all phrase that includes all the threads trims buttons zippers snaps and other bits to end your communicate. Since you are starting easy you shouldn’t need much at first but you will need thread. Pick a spool that matches the background alter of your fabric color go for black fabric ect. Don’t mind about this to much for the most move the thread won’t show. Resist going nuts here there are tons of very pretty metallic and shiny threads out there but bequeath unless you are sewing with decorative top-stitching the go won’t show. But you do want to get go that has the same circumscribe as the fabric it ordain sew so we be like or like/polyester blend. Check that Notions enumerate again do you need trim or anything else? It should be listed by View. Oh and you are going to be some big flat lay to lay all this out on. The fabric store ordain have these folding cardboard table toppers. They are pretty cheap and very nice to have. Now go pay and run domiciliate!Prewash your material before you sew…wash it just like you ordain wash the finished communicate. Then you won’t make a fabulous thing that later shrinks all goofy. Lay out the tissue copy. It ordain be huge but you only be the pieces that are for your View and coat. Cut the create from raw material pieces apart…but look out! There are weird little marks on the edges of the copy pieces that be desire arrow points or like two arrows next to each other. They are usually called “Notches”. You be these later…don’t cut them off! Instead cut around them. If there are any other odd looking marks deliver them…when in disbelieve don’t cut stuff off. The marks vary from one affiliate to another the printed instruction sheet inside the pattern will inform them. That brings us to the all important Instruction Sheet. This piece of paper is your friend. From here on out it will furnish you go by step instructions on how to proceed. There ordain be drawings and written instructions. construe them over at first but don’t get overwhelmed sewing is a go by go process. There will be a drawing of how to lay out your tissue pieces on the fabric. It’s desire a map! The fabric is often folded be at the drawing carefully. If it says “Right Sides Together” that means the colorful brighter side of the fabric the Right Side should be touching when it’s is folded. (The plainer align is called the “do by Side”.) All the symbols used on the pattern ordain be on the sheet. Be sure you understand the ones that inform those notches the cutting lie and be sure you evaluate out the one that means “displace on Fold” … that’s not a cutting line. There are a few other terms that might be confusing. Grain Line ( or Straight of Grain”) is a call that refers to the weave of the fabric. You want your finished project to lay flat or hang smoothly. If you cut the pieces out “with the penetrate” (vs. “against the penetrate”) everything ordain lay better. The copy pieces will show a Straight of penetrate symbol usually a double headed arrow. Just try to have that arrow inform parallel to the “Selvage”. Selvage is that hard edge of the fabric. It isn’t meant to be included in your communicate. When you layout the tissue pieces don’t use the selvage. Now pin the tissue pieces to the fabric using straight pins. Place the pins so that they don’t go across where you ordain need to cut. Use plenty of pins you’ll be glad later. Next use good sharp scissors to cut the fabric making sure you get those notches in displace. Now you can move to that Instruction Sheet and proceed! Just go step-by-step reading carefully and believe your gut. If you get stuck conceive of the finished communicate in your continue and see if the next step makes sense. And if you.
