FITCHBURG Fitchburg Art Museum announces fall and pass exhibitions events and performances with a special exhibition opening on September 30 from noon to 4 p m. On The Edge: Contemporary Origami Contemporary marvels by Origami master Michael LaFosse and selected students from the world renowned Origamido Studio will be presented. More than 60 works by the Fitchburg native ordain be exhibited including realistic animals life-like insects natural flowers intricate boxes and complex geometric shapes tAt the opening reception. Michael LaFosse ordain attend and show folding techniques and sign books for visitors. Also on exhibition will be Contemporary Sculpture with work by Lothar Ostenberg and Sally Moore. Both exhibitions will be on show through January 27. 2008 Michael G. LaFosse is a world-renowned paper maker and cover folding artist. He has been practicing the art of Origami for over 40 years and has been teaching for more than 30 years. Michael is internationally regarded as one of the top origami masters in the world today. Born in Fitchburg. Massachusetts he was fascinated by sea shells and studied to change state a biologist. This is evident in his works - many of which have been shown in the Louvre in Paris and the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem. LaFosse has authored many books on origami with partner Richard L. Alexander and created videos and instructional DVDs.We ordain also have a table in the exhibition with origami books and supplies so that visitors can try their hand at this complex and exciting artform. We will also have fabulous family-oriented activities here along with our fall exhibition schedule of origami and forge, explains Education Director Laura Howick. We will have nearly 60 works from Michael LaFosse and students of the Origamido studio. LaFosse grew up in Fitchburg and has trained to become one of the leading origami (folded cover) artists in the world. This ordain be an exciting opportunity to see his complexly folded forms which include a menagerie of animals close-up when he presents a demonstration and signs books during the opening reception. Also on view: Contemporary Prints and Sculpture, with bring home the bacon by Lothar Osterburg and Sally Moore. These photogravures conjure fragmentary worlds that lie between memories and reality. The imaginative works of art constructed with bits and pieces of everyday materials interpret dreamlike scenes and landscapes, explains Curator Kristina Durocher.
