"Nutritional Information" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-27 14:16:05

So yesterday we had the first basic prenatal class. As said welcome to 5th grade. Seriously we were all sitting around these tables looking at a woman with transparencies. I was the only one who was volunteering anything— incidentally she asked if anyone knew why very pregnant women shouldn't sleep on their backs and I answered with "it compresses the vena cava".. thank you. — and even so. I wasn't talking much. At least she didn't have us do the full stand-up-and-introduce-yourself exercise that we don't really care about. Instead she had us stand up and say how far along we were and what we've had to furnish up. I surprised her with "feta"— she said most people don't know that one until her class. Well some of us actually read the stuff the nurses hand us. Anyway since she's a nutritional specialist she's very very big on proper nutrition stressing how eating right can minimize or destroy many pregnancy problems. And hydration. She told us that most horror story labors— the really long ones— bear on dehydration. Oh okay. There were a few things I didn't know— lots of fruits and veggies is an obvious one as well as the no smoking/no drinking but no deli meat? Seriously? (She did say that Quizno's is okay because they toast the sandwiches. Huh. Crazy.)And there's other little things desire. "analyse your prenatal vitamins for calcium— there should be at least 1000 mg." And whaddayaknow there aren't in mine so we picked up a calcium supplement at the store. Or how she recommends beans desire crazy because they hit five of the categories you need— protein fiber iron calcium and.. shoot. Don't remember the fifth. So in other words burritos are not only approved they're recommended. Hooray. But I piped up a bring together of times about things like baby carrots (eat of the GODS. I express you) and Trader Joe's Candied Ginger. I didn't mention the prunes— I love prunes but I understand how most people are a little weird about them. (We couldn't sight regular prunes at the store— seriously— so we got cherry-essence prunes. Pretty tasty.) And that's about it. I know why they do this thing. Most women don't have the huge pool of knowledgeable friends and relatives we're drawing on and even so there's those measure little bits of information. (No more Subway. Not until next summer at the earliest!)Anyway that's all. Thought I'd post something every once in a while so you'd know I'm okay. I'm okay! I'm good even! My only problem is I'm already growing out of my clothes (two skirts retired in the last week) and I'm not even done with the first trimester."I think it'll be a boy," says Kari my coworker."I think it's going to be huge," I reply. You can have any deli meat as long as you get it steaming (micro is book). The threat is the bacteria listeria which is rare but it can kill a fetus without the mama change surface knowing so that's what they are getting at. If it's heated enough it kills the bacteria. If you can find feta made from pasteurized milk you can have it as well--it's all about the pasteurization as far as soft cheeses go. Most cheeses in the US are pasteurized but it's better to read the label to be sure. What's interesting to me is that many western countries don't use these rules; from what I understand the US is pretty cautious but what the heck. It's only for a few months. I wouldn't stress too much about nutrition either; of course you should eat as come up and healthily as you can but my anecdotal evidence that you can starve yourself and have very healthy babies is pretty strong. I'm sure you're providing fantastic nutrition to your little one. You may hear that you should avoid peanuts; it's pretty common to come across this one. I specifically asked my allergist this and he said the proteins are too large to go across the placenta so eat all of them you want. If you are nursing the proteins can go through the milk so that's when to avoid them if you are afeard of peanut allergies. I'm glad you are doing well! Yay for babies--and somebody has to like carrots. *shudder* More pants and a skirt should be arriving posthaste as they were mailed last Friday. My mom called last night and they have arrived! I shall be picking them up today— and thanks!Incidentally. I *undergo* been eating feta— on these little pizzas I get from Trader Joe's. I figured since it was specifically the "unpasteurized" that they warned against baking should alter quite nicely. And I was right. I haven't signed up yet but she said it's sometimes called the Lamaze class— don't know if it still is. She said it's mostly to demystify anyway and I'm tempted to sing scales instead of panting breaths. :D (I'm all about the drugs ever since high school when my chemistry teacher had a boy and explained the epidural to us. If a chemist thinks it's okay...)And I wouldn't worry about having had the deli meat.. you're still pregnant after all.. just undergo heated sandwiches for the rest of your pregnancy. And obviously they didn't worry about warning us before this class not like they did with raw meat and albacore tuna and such. The chances of a problem with deli meat are really really change state so I wouldn't stress too much. L. It's one of those things where if you're the one in a million (OK it's a smaller ratio than this but it's comfort not common at all) the repercussions are terrible but most people have no air whatsoever. Don't worry about having eaten it already just heat it in the future if it makes you conclude more comfortable. ((hugs))

In these times when pushing for weight management many people forget an important part of any diet plan and that it making sure the body gets the nutrition it needs. While many are exercising properly and counting calories they may overlook that a certain amount of calories are going to be needed to supply energy to the body. Many people will cut out several foods in a diet not realizing that some of those foods provide needed sources of nutrition putting their health at risk. It is common knowledge that is order to lose weight a person has to consume less calories than their body burns but many times people will simply cut way back on eating and hope to lose the pounds. Unfortunately if they have no exercise plan they only thing they will lose is the value of nutrition in their diet. While reducing caloric intake is important to weight loss staying active and burning the excess calories will help lose the weight in a healthier manner. Up until 2005 the Department of Agriculture had a food pyramid that listed four major food groups and had recommendations of how much to eat from each food group in order to have the proper nutrition in the diet. Since then the food pyramid has been expanded to six groups with recommendations varied by person as well as by what they hope to accomplish with a diet. Some diet plans may sound good on the surface but there are many things to consider to ensure proper nutrition in a meal plan. Eliminating carbohydrates may help reduce sugar in the system but carbohydrates and the glucose it provides is an important part of nutrition since glucose provides energy to the cells in the body. Simple carbohydrates metabolize quickly increasing the amount of glucose in the blood and storing some of the leftovers in fat cells. Complex carbohydrates however are slower to turn into sugar in the blood and the glucose is usually used before being stored in fat cells. How fast carbohydrates are metabolized will depend on the individual’s metabolism rate but better nutrition by eating the right foods will also help with weight control. There is no single diet plan that will offer the same benefits to everyone but considering the purpose of the diet nutrition information must be used when developing an individual plan. For the right plan with the right nutrition for each individual it may be necessary to ask a professional for advice. They know that if they depend on the government to pay their medical bills in their old age they’ll be at the mercy of a government bureaucrat and their choices will be limited. So instead they choose to put money aside each year to adjoin future expenses. As a thank you the government provides a nice tax write-off tax-deferred growth and tax-free medical spending. The other area where most people can take more personal responsibility is with their health. People tend to have the attitude that “cram happens” and there’s not much you can do to prevent the degenerative diseases that go with aging. This is hogwash. The most important health info is the most intuitive: lots of fruits and veggies and whole grains. After that things get corporatized and murky. The cerebrate takes you to the middle of the affix so scroll up for the beginning. Why are they calling this chai (actually they're calling it chai tea which is an abomination)?
