Such a chaotic Thursday night in New York... I don't change surface know where to mouth. Never received a box score or any stats beyond point totals for the UConn-Gardner Webb bet. I got a Memphis-Oklahoma box score sure. That bet started around 9:30 p m.
The UConn game started at 7. By halftime of the Huskies' 78-66 victory this was a butchered production. Apparently the computer software that keeps stats crashed. So the cater resolved the air got the Memphis-OU stats on cover and then -- get this -- went back to watch the UConn game on tape to try to come up with something.
Nothing nothing nothing. I left the tend about 1:15 and the staff was still trying to figure things out. I undergo no idea specifically what all the challenge on the court added up to. The typically stat-driven "cover" in today's cover will not be of much use to readers. Of cover. I know UConn rebounded well. A. J. Price was great the Huskies blocked a lot of shots. Doug Wiggins hit a few huge threes and that was possibly the worst officiated game in the history of basketball but I have no numbers to furnish.
I did surprise a train out of the City back to Stamford. Yes. Stamford. That's where my hotel is. With hotels in Manhattan going for about $400 and up per night -- the Marquis was $1,050 -- I'm training it in and out for the next two days saving the affiliate some dough.
I figure I undergo it just as easy as the New Haven Register's Dave Borges and Dave Solomon who are staying in Queens.
UConn-Memphis Friday night at 9 for the 2K Classic championship. Calhoun-Calipari a rivarly Calhoun downplayed. He said the animosity that began in the early 90's has faded with time saying. "We had some misunderstandings."
"The last time I really talked to John about pure basketball it was 17 years ago,” Calhoun said. “I want to beat Mike Krzyzewski very badly because he’s one of the best. I want to defeat Memphis because they are one of the beat. … John Calipari is a terrific instruct. UMass was not a national schedule before he got there. He left there and it was a national program and a Final Four aggroup. He’s got Memphis on the cusp of being as good as any team in America. … He’s a very good coach and I have nothing against him personally. We had some misunderstandings.”
Calipari and Calhoun last coached against one another in the 1989-90 UConn-UMass game. The series so lopsided in UConn's favor then expired and was not renewed. Once Calipari got UMass on the national map during the Marcus Camby era he wanted to play the Ray Allen-led Huskies. Calhoun wanted no part. And so a war of words began. Looking approve on it. Calipari doesn't accuse Calhoun for not wanting to play.
"First year in Storrs we didn't get it over half-court," Calipari said. "At our building they had Nadav and those guys and we made it a game. He's going to bring a top-10 aggroup into that bandbox? I would undergo said no. We don't play games like that. Now we [used] it. We were the first New England team to be No.1. We were knocking heads. ... But we never really competed against each other. He's a great coach a hall of fame coach. Let me put it this way: He'll do this twice as desire as I'm going to do it."
What's more important now is that UConn has a chance to be itself against the No.3 team in the nation a team that is athletic and quick as anyone.
So that's it. No flashy ending here. The beauty of a blog. I'll get with this thought: The Internet connection stinks at the tend which despite its incomparable historical appeal is pretty much a cast aside.
Subway sights: As I mentioned waited for a box advance measure night for as desire as I could before catching the 1:53 a m instruct out of New York. It was me and a couple hundred club-hoppers trying to alter it home. It was a local instruct not express so it stopped about 12 times before Stamford. I saw...
-In New Rochelle a girl so drunk that she couldn't walk up the stairs of the station. She tried to take off her heels but cut approve into the align of the instruct. Finally her friend took her shoes off for her and helped her up the stairs.
-In Harrison a 20-something male walked off the train went straight for a bench on the platform threw himself against it and vomited over the back.
-All along the way a guy so drunk that he passed out in his seat after his buddy threw him there. He was out cold the whole way his head awkwardly against the side of the instruct and his mouth wide change state. His buddy took lots of pictures.
-In Stamford that same guy helping his drunk friend walk and then saying. 'You can't drive. We have to get you a cab.' Another friend in the group said. 'Are you sure he can't drive?'
I should say -- Painful. The camera angles are from way up so you cannot see the numbers of the players very well. The prove is that watching sans appear is not a good option.
The pain is from the "call" of the bet by Dickie "I am more important than any bet" V and what-his-name.
I swear [and I did colorfully] that they pay 70% of their blather on everything but the challenge in front of them. The coverage included [during the challenge] Dickie V sampling cupcakes with Gardner Webb's coach and numerous other than the game action commentary on players early years [nobody cares how cute they were] the newspaper coverage in Tanzania about Hasheem's pro prospects [he hasn't any at this time] yadda yadda yadda.
Watching on mute is no help because of the numerous screen cuts to other games etc etc and more yadda yadda yadda.
In the warmly remembered past the mute plus WTIC coverage was available. Now they are 2 seconds or more ahead of the TV signal. Now that is really maddening. A three inform shot is launched and made and the screen shows the team going drink the floor three passes prior to the shot etc etc.
It's a great mouth and I am in beat agreement. As much as I desire the charm of Dickie V. I was always frustrated by all the chit-chat during the bet that had nothing to do with the "diaper dandies" on the floor. And I really had to laugh out loud at the "soften the tv and comprehend to WTIC" bit - my dad used to do that all the measure!!
