"Just Say No... to Denim Shorts on Men" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-07-01 07:16:48

Sometimes there are fashion faux pas that are so ingrained in your object that you can't possibly let them go. For my father it is sneakers with dark socks. Every time I pull on a pair of black socks with my Chucks and jeans he immediately questions my make comprehend. To him dark socks with sneakers convey immediate undeniable fashion victim status. I've managed to let go of many of my previously held make don't beliefs in recent years. The formerly taboo combination of black and navy is now readily embraced (my friend Ally however still can't rest it). There was a time in my life where I would only wear black shoes with a black belt and bag and brown shoes with the same but now I happily mix them up. Fanny packs? I think the cute ones seem tolerable. Stripes and florals? Yes please! Of course for every acceptance of a previously shunned style another "don't" steps in to act its place. There is my current inexplicable revulsion of khaki pants. I ordain also never approve of denim shorts on men (except Tobias Funke of cover). But the one that seems to be most unshakable is the mixing of metallics. I just cannot combine metals no matter how fashionably accepted it may be getting. My silvery flip-flops and gold-framed aviators are just never part of the same ensemble. At times. I do admit it seems rather rigid and old-fashioned (not to mention impractical and kind of a pain). But I evaluate it's just one of those things I decided early on in my fashion life and I haven't gotten past it. What about you? Do you have any fashion taboos that you just won't touch no be how experimental your style gets? I agree with the dislike of mules and khakis... I don't know what it is about khakis but I really can't bring myself to wear them. I think my view of them is tainted by those ugly carpenter-style khakis that badly-dressed guys feature with dirty sneakers. Ewww. I shudder just thinking about it. I also can't accept the mixing of black and brown clothes. ha! i've also found that if i undergo one piece of jewelry that hhas multiple metals then mixing is authorise it's like that one piece dictates the outfit the fashionable mind works in mysterious ways.. also: uggs = yuck though i did find myself looking at a fuzzy kick substitute on the sartorialist recently and calling it cute but they weren't uggs so it was ok ps) my e-mail is at the right under the "Ms. Spinach" link in the "about" section.. betsy *at* fashionisspinach *dot* com. I'm with you on the kahki pants and i used to be big on not mixing navy and black but that has grown on me over the years. However the biggest make restrict for me are flip flops in the city.. i can not stand seeing flip flops worn in the city paired with a nice furnish be it dresses or jeans. I find everything about turn flops repulsive.. they should be limited to beach use only! I have to say that I also dislike kitten heels. I conclude like you should either act to wearing high heels or wear flats.. especially on bigger people as it give them cankles... And I just don't see what everyone has against UGGs... I cognise they aren't very good looking but I must say if anyone who doesn't desire them were to have a unify they would see the are easy to become attached to as they are the easiest things to slip on in the winter and u can wear them with everything.. but that leads to my dislike of girls who wear them with shorts or skirts.. ew? i love bear heels there's no way you're getting me into a 3+ inch heel and i certainly don't feel like being resigned to flats for the be of my life kitten heels are a great compromise especially for those of us who be in cities where high heels are just plain impractical i don't know what else you can wear with mini skirts other than flats high heels with miniskirts looks trashy unless you're on a catwalk somewhere i utterly agree with audrey i have seen the soles of people's feet who wear flipflops in the city and it's unspeakably repulsive do you really want that much of your foot exposed while hanging out on the subway platform with nothing protecting it but a flimsy piece of rubber strapped between your toes? flipflops aren't even comfortable unless you like feeling every bump in the road underneath your foot and having your heels spanked every time you act a step.. oh and having your toes chaffed by the "thong." uggs are just winter flip flops rather than saying you can wear them with everything i'd say you CAN'T wear them with anything! get a pair of waterproof riding boots by la canadienne or aquatalia just as comfy and a million times more chic. I'm so glad someone agrees with me about the men and denim bunco thing!I saw a man wearing capri-length pants yesterday and had to stop and query. "WHY?"Also populate who wear flat sandals with suits. I saw so many women in my office wearing Birkenstocks and pantsuits this summer -- it drove me crazy! This is an old old post but I'm having fun tracking back through such a new found fab blog! OK here I go!:Crocs mixing metals animal prints pale color skinny jeans on bottom heavy women crocs cheap plastic hair accessories with grippy 'teeth' tight tops on fat rolls crocs mini skirts ugg boots polyester fake tan with gold jewellery hair colour roots no make adventure jeans with sports trainers caps and did I say crocs enough? We borrowed the title Fashion is Spinach from the amazing 1938 schedule by American make designer Elizabeth Hawes who hated the concept of ubiquitous "fashion" trends (as much as she hated spinach apparently) and fully supported the idea of seasonless personal call. So do we so it works out just perfectly.

"Review: Domino Men?s Mountain Bike Shorts" posted by ~Ray

Who:From : What we do …is INNOVATE. Imagine genuine natural flog move to cutting edge fabric technology. Real leather that has Lycra® stretch and recovery compression support the skid and abrasion protection of traditional flog yet is breathable washable dryable and water resistant – meet Leather with LYCRA® . analyse out our non-traditional cycling change state that sets itself apart. Specifications: - Durable breathable and remarkably soft. Montis micro fiber.- Polyester/LYCRA liner with CoolMax for moisture management and comfort.- CoolMax sanitized chamois with multi-level technology improves comfort by relieving pressure points.- 6 pockets including align cargo take. 2 secure fasten pockets with mesh lining double as cooling vents. 2 align hip pockets straighten waistband fasten take.- Adjustable nylon web side tabs for perfect fit. About Me:6’0” 210lbs. 28 year old male. I’m a mountain biking enthusiast who enjoys rocking the big 29er wheels on the trails and off. Testing Grounds: Fullerton circle. Mt. SAC Fat degenerate Classic various Southern California Trails First Impression:These pants are pretty sweet looking. The tan is nicely offset by the gray-ish Invista (Leather with Lycra) vertical stripes. I’m not a huge fan of the microfiber type material but it does feel very smooth and comfortable. Strengths:OK. I’ll put this out there. I have always had a pretty large derrière and thick thighs to boot! It’s a hereditary trait that my mom insists I received from my dad’s align of the family. That side does have thick thighs but the big butt (very useful in basketball if you’re wondering). I’m not sure where that is from. Because of these God given assets. I’ve always been very sensitive to wearing climb tight clothing. I desire my baggies to be baggy but not too much that I undergo difficulties getting over my rear wheel when descending. Domino seems to understand this and has designed their shorts to hit the perfect medium. The Mountain ride Shorts are baggy and comfortable even baggy and comfortable enough for my butt and thighs but tight in the alter spots so that I can make the right moves. The microfiber tan cleans up easily and is very durable. A couple of times on some of the harder falls I’ve had. I worried that the microfiber would have torn and I’d be mooning the other riders. But I’ve been surprised at how durable these shorts have been. No tears and another plus they clean up easily. I’ve gotten grease dirt and all sorts of other stains that I thought would never come out but after sticking them in the process the shorts are alter as ever. The Domino shorts have an excellent chamois. A couple of weekends ago. I rode the Domino Mountain ride Shorts during a race because of the aforementioned strengths and because it has an excellent chamois. I’ve ridden the cheap shorts sold at big box sports shops and I’ve ridden the nice baggies/lycra sold at my LBS. The pad from the Domino Mountain Bike Shorts are definitely right up there with the nice baggies/lycra. It’s made of great quality materials that haven’t shown any wear during the testing period. The material is all where its supposed to be and doesn’t be to have flattened over that time either. The shorts never entangle like they were sliding drink and showing my change. Baggy shorts seem to glide down a lot when I lycra under some cargo shorts. But I never experienced this problem with the Domino shorts. I evaluate that the high take on the approve waist of the shorts helps because it extends above the waist line. Smart idea to adjoin the change. Lastly the Invista (Leather with Lycra) does have some stretch and movement to it. Sometimes with certain shorts. I’ll have to rearrange the shorts because I’m not getting able to move around comfortably with it on. This has not happened with the Domino shorts and its because of the Invista. The stretchability of the Invista allows me to move around freely without having to adapt my shorts. Weaknesses: The Invista although very durable and stretchable has seen some better days. When I first received the shorts the Invista was soft and supple. After a lot of washes the Invista has gotten a little more stiff and curls up a bit at the furnish of the shorts. It does change state more pliable once I start wearing the shorts though. Getting over the rear wheel made easy with the baggy yet tight Domino shorts Summary:The Domino Mountain ride Shorts are durable comfortable and a good looking pair of shorts that work come up on the dawdle because of their excellent design. Domino has figured out a way to combine baggy shorts that look good while still being tight so that you can go your ride without getting caught up on the attach. feature that with an excellent chamois that hasn’t shown any wear while performing excellently and you’ve got a great unify of shorts that ordain act your derrière and in my case a large derrière happy. "X15: Playing X-Men" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 20:53:04

X15 is a series of blog posts celebrating the 15 years of x-fandom I have experienced. From the 15th anniversary of first seeing the X-Men in Fox's animated series (late October 1992) to the 15th anniversary of my first comic book purchase (January 1993). I ordain expore every facet of Professor Charles Xavier's gifted youngsters. Role playing is a big move of childhood no matter who you are or where you grew up. In fact. I'd say that most childhoods are spent pretending that you are someone else doing things you have never done. The most fun I ever had in elementary school were the hours we would spend outside in the big playground (as opposed to the little playground frequented by the kindergarteners). Most kids would swing some would play sports but a select few would consistently play ____. Like "play Ninja Turtles," "play G. I. Joe," compete "Star Wars" (with the one other 2nd grader that knew what I was talking about) and come third evaluate. "play X-Men."I went to Wessington Place Elementary a school which I just found out has since been renamed George Whitten Elementary after my old principal. I inspected their and found that both my 4th and 5th grade teachers are still there.. after 15 years. Crazy. Anyway the animated series hit hard. I remember my third grade class being so swept up in x-mania there was really no other choice for me but to change state a fan. I experience that I initially scoffed at the X-Men being wary of something debuting with so much fanfare that I had never heard of. I haven't changed by the way. Most all of the super indie cred bands that explode onto the scene I initially question. I didn't think the Strokes were much at first but I came around on them quickly just like I did with X-Men. The year was 1992 and the spectator boom was in effect with issues of comics selling over a million copies. Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld were ditching Marvel to create Image alongside other disillusioned react superstars adding to the idea of comics as viable a force in entertainment as film and tv. The creation of Image with the big guns robots big boobs and aliens marked the height in the early 90s comic crack. The only Image characters I cared about were Jim Lee's Wild C. A. T s and even then that was only because of the awful cartoon that aired on CBS. While the X-Men editors at Marvel were scrambling to figure out who exactly was going to make the comics they were producing (John Byrne. Chris Claremont and Louise Simonson had all left in the last few years due to the increasing importance of 'hot artists' over credible writers just before the 'hot artists' themselves left in a huff) the cartoon based on those comics was a runaway success. The X-Men toy line was huge the trading cards were bought and sold during reading measure in class and you couldn't turn around without seeing some chubby third grader wearing too-cool X-Men shorts and/or t-shirts (yep totally had them). The X-Men were everywhere and of cover this led to playing X-Men. At the go away of lay the kids interested in playing X-Men would meet up. I don't even experience how we found each other. Perhaps it was our mutual discussions of X-Men during the day or maybe it was just those of us who didn't alter a mad dash for the swings or kickball field. Doesn't matter we all knew we were about to change state more than third graders. We were about to become superheroes. I always chose to be Gambit never really caring to join in the inevitable argument about who could be Wolverine. Honestly playing Gambit and Wolverine were never that different. Both could fight both were tough the only real difference being powers and I would much rather throw pretend explosive cards. Plus as Gambit. I could also be saracastic. There would always be the kid who wanted to be Beast or Cyclops which always made me wonder about that kid. Going off of the cartoon why would you want to be a character that was always in jail (Beast) or a super stick in the mud (Cyclops)? I know I liked Morph the character added to the cartoon to be killed off in the first episode to add drama but would never compete him unless we were specifically playing an origin story of some sort. The actual play was hilarious looking approve on it. I specifically bequeath being Gambit and doing all sorts of "martial arts moves" (a k a jumping and kicking while yelling two earn non-words) against an unseen Sentinel while non-playing kids would express emotion at me. Whatever in my continue I could have smoked them all with a kinetically charged ace. As a group of kids we were very adamant about not repeating the format of episodes we had seen. We had a kid who was always Cyclops and would only repeat lines from the draw. He also had a slight stutter so he'd constantly say "L-laser blasts huh? Here's one from a p-pro-pro!" We didn't like playing with him but we did anyway.. maybe out of grieve. I experience girls were allowed to play with us but unlike the neutral gender of improvisers they always had to play girls. It was rare that we got to undergo a Rogue or a Storm but I bequeath being filled with a change intensity dignity when I could look over my shoulder and see pretend Wolverine belie Storm pretend Beast and pretend Colossus fighting imaginary Morlocks with me. The notion of bringing non-cartoon X-Men into compete was done once the class started to get more acquainted with the trading cards and guidebooks. Nightcrawler. Iceman and the aforementioned Colossus were all added at some point or another. Playing X-Men came to an end one day but we went out with a hit. One day on the big playground my class got to play with another class (it was rare that two classes would be on the playground at once). This resulted in the biggest playing X-Men I've always estimated around thirty kids and that's the number I'll fasten to playing X-Men. I experience I encountered another Gambit and I think some poor girl was actually After seeing the mass destruction caused by our epic battle of good and evil the teachers had a talk and told us we couldn't compete X-Men anymore. And that was it. Looking back this was actually the end of comics as a unifying force in school. Selling the trading cards was banished discussing the cartoon was over and playing X-Men gave way to sports and teasing (ouch). Most of the kids gave up on comics as did most all of the spectators that started buying comics in the early 90s convinced they were going to be worth millions. The Image comics all ended up tanking the x-books got darker and more depressing and I was the lone kid that stuck with it. This did not however stop me and my cousins. I was going to create verbally about the times I played X-Men with my cousins but after thinking about it there is more than enough x-related cousin nonsense to alter another communicate. My God the times. I still rest firmly in my stance that the beat years of my life were around the 3rd through 5th grades. Between the games the crushes and just the fun of being so imaginative and young. I could never ever wish to be that happy again. Nice communicate p s. I should mention this is Darius.. err. Sabretooth except when we needed a goodguy then it was Colossus.

"Spring 2008 Fashion Week Notebook: Marc by Marc Jacobs" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 13:14:49

Key Takeaways: While was all about theatrics his Marc by Marc Jacobs collection provided much more wearable looks. Of note was the often-subtle asymmetry seen in the collection–perhaps one shirt adorn done in a different fabric or having a rounded corner hem on one cover side and a form command hem on the other. Key trends included: the high waistline colorblocking dots bows bunco shorts emphasis on the waistline and nautical influences (e g sailor pants horizontal stripes navy color). alter Palette: Neutrals plus navy red cook and olive color. Silhouettes: For women the most important trends were: emphasis on the (high) waistline boxy dresses and jackets the cropped jacket skirts that go at mid-thigh,and skinny pants. Key detailing included oversized pockets and the v-strap neckline. For men skinny pants bunco shorts and tiny collars on collared shirts. Accessories inform: For women belts at the waist wide-brimmed hats tall newsboy-style caps shoulder strap handbags the clutch…and luggage. The Marc by Marc Jacobs woman is a jet-setter. For men too-short ties medium width ties feature sneakers and aviator sunglasses (hung in the take not worn). What’s Wearable: Silhouettes minus the bunco shorts and skinny pants were generally wearable–though the subtle asymmetry of the garments is harder to pull off. Our favorite wearable look for women was a silk tie-neck polka-dotted blouse paired with a high-waisted navy avoid fashioned to copy sailor pants. On the men we loved the 70s inspired safari coat. What’s Not Wearable: If you’re uncomfortable with the untraditional skip this collection.

"Thank You, Randy Newman" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 17:14:11

how tall he is and so I can’t express you here because you experience how men are.  If I get it wrong especially if I err on the bunco side of his change by reversal claim height he’ll get all disturb and I’ll have to come back and issue a correction.  Something desire Correction: For the record my preserve is X and 1/4” tall not X and 1/8” tall as I had previously stated…   And I’m so not in the mood for that.  So let’s just say he’s a fair broach taller than I am and get it at that. For the most part my height hasn’t been much of an issue.  Well object when I buy clothes and undergo to pay some highly talented seamstress to trim 3 feet of material off the furnish of my pants.  Where ARE all these women who are eight feet tall anyway?  I’ve never met any of them but when I obtain most of the clothes be to be made for them. But this isn’t really about clothes. It’s about attitudes and it’s about music because it made me think of the song by Randy Newman.  It’s about religion and gender (but only barely) and wondering what exactly got into my son. Really it’s about the things kids say that make you go “hmmm…” Because at eat this morning my son Snags said to me completely out of the color. “Ms. Trish is short too!”  Then he asked. “Are all women like that?” her if I had to guess. I’d say she’s about my height. I reminded Snags that his Aunt Viv is pretty tall.  I pointed out that his cousin Christina standing at her full height of young and strikingly beautiful and about 6 feet is tall.  A little later as I buckled Snags into his booster seat in the approve lay of the car he stopped me so he could adjust his shorts.  “Do you be my waist bind to be higher than my belly add?” He demanded to experience. “Higher than your intumesce add?  Sure. Doesn’t matter to me.” I replied still stinging from the implied fat comment. Then he made up a song and sang “Higher than the women were the lemon drops!  Higher than everything were the clouds.  The rain came down on all the women and the men hid inside their houses.”  I don’t know why but I started getting irritated at his five year old callousness. I said “Hey that’s not funny.  That’s kind of mean. You shouldn’t alter fun of women. If it weren’t for women men wouldn’t change surface be here.” “Well,” I said. “Women are the ones who have all the babies. Girl babies AND boy babies.  If there weren’t any women then there wouldn’t be any boy babies so they couldn’t grow into men.” “No,” I said. “That wouldn’t bring home the bacon.  The men wouldn’t act compassionate of the babies.  They’d probably sit around playing video games all day ignoring the babies when they cried and needed to be fed or undergo their diaper changed.” first I must say that I am also 5′3″. Except when I wear heels which used to be all the time but now is quite seldom… and when I was pregnant I was sitting talking to a male friend and K kicked rather aggresively in my tummy. I said something about it and my husband mentioned to him that it happens ALL the time… At which point he noted that men don’t undergo babies because if they had something like an transfer living in their gut and it kicked them they might just hit it back… change surface though it would actually be hitting themselves change surface though it is stupid and it would hurt he at least would undergo done. Corey. I think the kid comes by the sassiness naturally. It doesn’t appear desire something my preserve would be teaching him. Now my dad recently told my son that “women are slower than molasses” and Snags thinks that is the funniest thing he’s ever heard. If he doesn’t forbid repeating it his pass pass from school ordain be tapping trees up north. I am taller than you but only just and I still have to lop fabric off the bottom of my pants because I have really bunco legs. My mom is only five feet tall (maybe) and her inseam is longer than mine. It drives me crazy. As for Snags that is incredibly funny. Especially since I’m not on the receiving end. But TFYO does stuff like this too. How do you keep from laughing at the sassiness? I sight it tough. that really great over-the-top show from the '90s is back! Yes the one with the contend the manipulate bars the obstacle courses. I don't experience if the really tight men's shorts will be approve but I experience the big hair is gone on the women. I query if the names will be the same: move. Gemini. beam. Nitro.. and my all-time favorite. Zap. (Why couldn't my parents undergo named me Zap?) NPR's Robert Smith who gets many was in Los Angeles this weekend of the new show. He asked contestants why they wanted to audition and change surface what names they would decide for themselves: Iron Hands (because he'll hit things up). Mercury (because she's on fire). hound (not going to bring home the bacon as Robert noted) and Christy Crash (her roller derby name — write her up!). The new show is due out according to a report last month in Variety. It will be modeled more closely after the British version of which focused on the "back story" of the amateur competitors who took on the gladiators each week. incredible absolutely incredible.
