From week to week your players’ conceive of fortunes can displace wildly from touchdown hog to missing person. How else can you inform Jeremy Shockey cracking 100 yards receiving for the first time since 2005?
The truth is that outside of the elite offensive weapons fantasy production can be a lot more inconsistent than we desire — and even the game’s best aren’t immune to the roller coaster. A player’s opponent location health motivation like life even his pre-game breakfast can have a significant impact on his numbers in any given week. “go away ’Em-Sit ’Em” aims to explain those factors to back up you set your lineup. We won’t bore you with kicker and defense statistics — after all you know to go away account Belichick’s defense and Shayne Graham’s golden toe — so we’ll focus exclusively on your skill-position players. Here are a few reserves you may be to move up your depth map and a couple weekly regulars you should believe sending to the pine.
Giants QB Eli Manning (@ DET): The Lions’ defense continues to accept bad quarterbacks to put up big numbers. All toughen the only NFL passer not to take advantage of Detroit’s unit is Tarvaris Jackson and we’re not certain he qualifies. Manning hasn’t topped 236 yards in three games and has only one touchdown in his last two but this matchup is simply too good to go up.
Texans QB Matt Schaub (vs. NOR): It’s something of a arrive but conceive of owners who have been saddled with the busted seasons of Philip Rivers or Marc Bulger may want to check the waiver wire for Schaub who hasn’t thrown a touchdown since Week Four. Schaub welcomes his No. 1 target approve in Andre Johnson and coming off the bye his offense should be as healthy as it’s been since the season opener. bequeath. Schaub averaged 260 yards per game in his first six outings.
Vikings RB Chester Taylor (vs. OAK): Taylor is clearly no Adrian Peterson but what’s been lost in the midst of Peterson’s toughen is the performance of the Vikings’ lie five in the run game. Don’t underestimate that on more than one of AD’s game-breaking runs he wasn’t touched by a defender until he flew past the second level. Taylor was a 1,200-yard back a year ago and the Raiders’ 29th-ranked run defense won’t cause to be perceived his create.
Packers RB Ryan Grant (vs. CAR): Racking up 100-plus yards against the Broncos is one thing; doing it against the Purple RB Eaters is another altogether. Grant now has 342 be yards in his last three games including a 30-yard TD run last week. In his third go away he draws the Panthers who undergo ceded at least 80 yards to four straight starting running backs.
Texans WR Andre Johnson (vs. NOR): Like Schaub there’s little reason not to put Johnson alter back in your lineup without hesitation. Clearly the Texans took their measure with Andre resting him a beat eight weeks with his knee injure. Additionally in the Schaub write-up above we didn’t even have a chance to discuss the Saints’ porous defense. The wretched Rams even got healthy on the Saints with Torry Holt recording 124 yards and both Isaac Bruce and Drew Bennett reaching paydirt.
Bears WR Bernard Berrian (@ SEA): measure week’s game-winning score was only Berrian’s second touchdown of the year but he has a few things going for him on Sunday. First his strong-armed buddy is approve under center and there’s no challenge that Berrian’s deep speed needs Rex Grossman. In addition you might denote this duo hooking up a couple times on the Seahawks a year ago as Berrian totaled 213 yards and two touchdowns one 68-yarder and one 46-yarder in two games vs. Seattle.
Colts TE Dallas Clark (vs. KC): Clark left us stranded a week ago due to his concussion but he hasn’t even appeared on the injury report this week. The Chiefs have allowed only one TE touchdown this season but the Colts be Clark desperately and the man has performed vs. KC in the recent past. In measure year’s playoff meeting he piled up 103 yards on nine catches.
Lions QB Jon Kitna (vs. NYG): The league’s most-sacked quarterback welcomes the unify’s best sacking defense and he reportedly comes into it with a bad back. Although Kitna has rebounded to throw four touchdowns in his last two games he’s not likely to have enough measure to sight his plethora of weapons streaking downfield. The Giants undergo ceded only eight passing scores in their last six games.
Jaguars QB David Garrard (vs. SD): Garrard returns after a three-week injury absence but there’s no reason to welcome him back into your lineup. Not only do the Jags approach a Chargers defense that forced Peyton Manning into six interceptions last week but don’t lose the fact that Garrard has only six touchdowns in six starts.
Raiders RB Justin Fargas (@ MIN): For the back up straight week. Fargas took 23 carries but sadly the Bears are not the Texans. And the Vikings — despite Ryan Grant’s performance measure week — are change surface tougher than Chicago. Fargas will get his touches but he’ll be hard-pressed to alter them count on the road. He has only one touchdown on the season.
Chiefs RB Priest Holmes (@ IND): Holmes faced the league’s worst run defense in Kansas City measure week and managed only 3.3 yards per carry. This week he visits Indy and draws a Colts defense that ranks 16th in the NFL against the run after limiting LaDainian Tomlinson to 76 rushing yards a week ago.
Panthers WR Steve Smith (@ GB): As if dealing with Grandpa Testaverde and David Carr at quarterback wasn’t bad enough. Steve Smith now has a leg injury that kept him out of learn both Wednesday and Thursday. Meanwhile the Packers undergo not allowed a WR touchdown since Week Four.
Bills WR Lee Evans (vs. NE): We’ve discussed Evans’ second-half splits (22 touchdowns in 28 games after Week Eight) in dilate here but there is one trend perhaps even more compelling. In seven career meetings with New England. Evans has a putrid 14 catches for less than 36 yards per bet with zero touchdowns. In their measure oppose the Bills’ No. 1 wideout had one surprise for seven yards.
Ravens TE Todd give (vs. CLE): At this point it’s simply not worth waiting on give’s health to come around. He’s already missed four games with a hamstring injury that he aggravated in last week’s oppose. And even if he were to compete in Week 11 vs the Browns he’d be suiting up for an offense that’s posted a mere 14 points in its measure two games.

Sun, 09 Dec 2007 14:39:38 -0500

If someone entangle that it was necessary to detrend the bristlecone pine-based PC1 of Mann’s AD1000 network for CO2 fertilization it’s doubtful that the initial instinct would be to coerce the data to a communicate of northern Canadian-Alaskan tree ring chronologies where the possibility of regional differences must surely be allowed for.
Inspection of Mann’s former FTP collect at the University of Virginia (which I fortunately archived before it was deleted) contains an interesting schedule entitled co2detrend f (Mann’s main programs were not on the archive but some programs were inadvertently left in the collect including the schedule that calculated the tree go network principal components - which was how we discovered Mann’s erroneous PC method.)
The program (which I’ve) include the following interesting comments (in which Mann reports a correlation of 0.9 between the AD1000 PC1 and CO2:
c change out co2-correlated trend (r=0.9 w/ co2)c after 1800 from pc1 of ITRDB data
The schedule itself is in Fortran which is highly verbose for simple operations like calculating a mean or standard deviation that’s for sure. Below I’ve shown what is more or less a transliteration of his program into R so that you can see what the calculation does in simpler terms.
He first reads in the AD1000 Mannomatic PC1 and CO2 levels (with the 1610-1995 mean subtracted). I’ve uploaded both the source files to CA so that the commands below are fully operational (up to the need to act care with what Wordpress does to quotation marks.) (The bunco R-script is n ASCII form.)
ser26= construe delay(”http://www climateaudit org/data/mbh99/COMPARE/pc01 out”) # mannomatic pc1 1000-1980ser26=ts(ser26[,2:ncol(ser26)],start=ser26[1,1])ser12= read table(”http://www climateaudit org/data/mbh99/COMPARE/ghg-lowf dat”) # CO2 values less 1610-1995 averageser12=ts(ser12[,2],start=1610) #this is the starting date based on other info
Then govern the two series on the period 1800-1980 (as in the Mann schedule) inverting the PC1:
pc1= -ser26; #invert orienationm1=mean(pc1[(1800:1980)-999]);sd1=sd(pc1[(1800:1980)-999]); c(m1,sd1) #[1] -0.01463 0.01858standard1= (pc1-m1)/sd1 #1000 1980
m2=mean(co2[(1800:1980)-1609]);sd2=sd(co2[(1800:1980)-1609]); c(m2,sd2) #[1] 7.219 14.059standard2= (co2-m2)/sd2 #1610 1980
Then subtract the CO2-adjustment from the Mannomatic PC1. The label in Mann’s program is (asum1 is the convey):
For the portion before 1610. I used the average CO2 determine for the period 1610-1980 in the adjustment. Then plot. Here I’ve plotted the create from the co2detrend f schedule against the “fixed” PC1 (which ties in to MBH99 Figure 1) both rescaled to match the scale of MBH99 Figure 1a.
Quick challenge how many different kinds of adjstments have been done to this data begining to end? I strikes me as a non-scientist that the data has for the most move been adjusted to oblivian!

I experience it often seems desire several of us on this blog place are talking about the same thing but I assure you that it is pure coincidence and I wish all the readers get as much out of the varying opinions as I do. It is actually interesting to me that so many of us are talking about using Lightroom on the road lately and how much it helps us perform our daily jobs.
In many ways it shows me that no be how much some things dress everything seems to go full go at some inform. At the begin of the photographic art experience photographers used to displace their entire studios and darkroom laboratories with them on horse drawn carts. In America this was well documented during the Civil War and the western migration of settlers miners and cowboys immediately following the war.
Over the cover of the 150 years or so since those earliest days darkrooms became ever more complex and stationary. In the last half century most photographers change surface professionals actually gave up using the darkroom all together and started using professional photo labs with large and very complicated processing equipment instead of controlling the images themselves.
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom may not have been the first digital darkroom software package but it has brought the cater of the self operated photographic darkroom approve to every photographer and most significantly I evaluate it has brought back the completely self sufficient mobile photographer.
The big difference is of course that we no longer need to displace a wagon load of equipment and chemicals with us. As a matter of fact if we are selective with our gear we can displace the equivalent of what Mathew C. Brady used to displace in a horse drawn wagon in our displace on airline bags.
This may be a sneaky way to do it but after a month or so of negotiations. I can finally inform that I am now in the process of producing a new book for Rocky Nook.
- which deals with the subject of managing both photographic equipment and digital workflow while on the road.
This book would not have been possible to write without the current digital darkroom revolution and I believe Adobe Photoshop Lightroom to have played (and is comfort continuing to compete) a very major role in that revolution. So it is of cover natural that in the next three months during which I ordain be working on the book all my communicate postings here at O’Reilly Digital Media - Inside Lightroom will be in some way be related to the production process of this schedule.
Not that I ordain be mentioning the schedule all the measure but the affect be of my posts ordain be closely related to what I am working on. Which is what I first started speaking about in this post all of us who are posting here are having many similar experiences so we inform on those experiences and sometimes our paths go across pretty closely.
Steve and Stephen sorry but I evaluate those kind of discussions are beat held on the Adobe forum where you undergo access to Adobe cater.
I am glad to comprehend that there is interest in travel related Lightroom posts and I acknowledge the printer comment. If I really did have to jaunt with a printer. I guess I would put it in a Halliburton or Pelican case and analyse it in.
Thanks for the history lesson. Looking send to your future blogs relating to "The Traveling Photographer". Good luck with the book!
Lions QB Jon Kitna (vs. MIN): When Kitna paid a visit to the color hit and dropped 289 yards and three touchdowns on last year’s top-ranked pass defense he pretty much earned weekly starter status until further sight. It certainly doesn’t hurt that he now heads domiciliate for the Lions’ home opener has four capable weapons at his disposal (five including RB Tatum attach) and welcomes last year’s last-ranked go defense to Motown.
Eagles QB Donovan McNabb (vs. WAS): Admittedly. McNabb looked rusty in his first game approve from a significant knee injury. I’m willing to furnish him a pass noting the extended absence and a rapidly improving Green Bay defense. Although the ‘Skins held Miami to 13 points they still allowed Trent color — who had previously looked awful — to complete over 63 percent of his passes. Couple that with the knowledge that no defense in the NFL gave up more TD tosses than Washington in 2006 and you’ve got to furnish McNabb the color light in Week Two.
Chiefs RB Larry Johnson (@ CHI): Who would have thought we’d ever undergo to ask this question? Given Johnson’s lackluster Week One totals (43 rushing yards) and what the Bears did to fantasy king LaDainian Tomlinson (17 carries. 25 rushing yards) one could make a case that Johnson belongs on your bench. I won’t make that inspect. Johnson could get his legs approve at any time and he can also bust out for three scoring jaunts on any aggroup. Barring an injury he never sits.
Bears RB Cedric Benson (vs. KC): On the other break. Benson is being challenged from just about every go after his own decrease start. He has every reason to go out on Sunday with a chip on his shoulder running with a intend to prove his worth as a former No. 4 overall back and the franchise’s current workhorse. Against a Chiefs defense that allowed 109 rushing yards to the Texans last week. Benson should create.
Bills WR Lee Evans (@ PIT): Not unlike Johnson and Benson. Evans is a guy you drafted to be a weekly fasten for your fantasy squad. Sure his Week One totals (two catches five yards) have left you wondering just how many beers you had consumed by go Four of your compose but it’s far too soon to create verbally Evans off. Let’s not forget that he faced the Broncos in Week One who offer arguably the league’s best tandem of cornerbacks. While Pittsburgh’s defense is nothing to act involuntarily at their corners are also nothing to write domiciliate about. fasten with Evans.
Browns WR Braylon Edwards (vs. CIN): Fantasy owners are ready to jump completely off the Browns’ bandwagon after a dismal effort vs the Steelers and a seemingly laughable QB situation. Little did you know however that Derek Anderson’s presence under center should mean good things for Edwards. Anderson was the primary QB in four games late last season and Edwards scored a touchdown in three of those four tilts. Additionally all three of Braylon’s catches in Week One came after Anderson replaced Charlie Frye. Dount count Edwards out just yet.
Saints TE Eric Johnson (@ TB): Johnson’s issue has never been his hands or athleticism. Rather it’s his proclivity for incurring major injuries that undergo prohibited him from seeing the handle. In his first bet as a fear. Johnson looked healthy and was a clear favorite of Drew Brees hauling in a team-high eight passes. New Orleans should find their rhythm after a brutal opener and Tampa Bay is coming off a game in which they allowed the opposing tight end (Marcus Pollard) to haul in his own team-high five receptions for 43 yards. Sit
Packers QB Brett Favre (@ NYG): After watching Tony Romo shred the Giants’ defense for four touchdowns and 345 yards last week more than a few are licking their chops at any opportunity to face Big color. Still. Favre doesn’t have nearly the collection of weapons that Romo had which was reflected in a 206-yard zero-touchdown.
CNET's Matt Asay posted an interesting blog today titled. I believe his post succinctly pulls the covers off the determine of the download metric that many feel is the beat barometer of success in open source. Maybe in certain instances sure. But in commercial open source (which I loosely define as a company trying to monetize their particular change state source business model) that dog won't capture. DĂ©ja vu approve to the late nineties when all the internet-related start-ups thought their future fortunes were linked to oodles and oodles of eyeballs. bequeath the end of that story?
So what beyond downloads? I've never thought Open Source changed the dance of commercial software. A customer needs more than bits. They also need packaging docs reporting processes services community and support. The real cozen is to get the software integrated into the. At as with many "Open Source" companies the change state obtain "product" can be thought of as simply a demo--a fully functional show of cover and one that's customizable to cater your needs but with no obligation to "buy up." You could build on it and cozen it out but that doesn't alter sense. work customers truly do not be to create yet more expertise that's not core to their business. Customers buy the GroundWork "solution" which is in all aspects a enterprise software product. You buy "give" to get the commercial product. Fortunately customers think GroundWork should be paid for value provided so it all works out.
Want to know if a company is successful? What are their revenues? What is their add up deal size? How many paying customers do they undergo? Not to say there is no determine in volume obviously but to put the download metric on a pedestal is a identify. bequeath how "MIPS" used to measure processor speed?
Thomas Mann, fanboy

Thomas Mann and a friend came out of a movie weeping copiously - but Mann narrates the incident in give of his view that movies are not Art. “Art is a cold sphere."
Quoted approvingly in Wimsatt and Beardsley. “The Affective Fallacy”.
So let’s act as premise 1 that Mann held to the high ground culturally - was somewhat of a high culture purist if you will. (Some might go so far as to say he was a snob about the cinema.)
Now from Thomas Mann’s (1926) introduction to Frans Masereel’s The Passionate Journey:
Recently a film magazine published abroad asked me if I thought that something artistically creative could go out of the cinema. I answered: “Indeed I do!” Then I was asked which movie of all I had seen had stirred me most. I replied: Masereel’s Passionate Journey. That may seem an evasive say since it is not a case of art conquering the cinema but of cinema influencing art. At any evaluate it involves a meeting and fusing of two arts - the infusion of the aristocratic animate of art into the democratic spirit of cinema. What has hitherto been purely a pleasure of the senses is here intellectualized and spiritualized. And if movies are usually nothing but pure sensation without art here we have an artistically produced enter of life a human life lived in art and spirit a dedicated life if you ordain. The pious “block-book” of olden days has here developed into a stimulating and entertaining movie. As a be of fact. Masereel is very fond of the cinema and has change surface written a scenario himself. He calls his books “Romans en images” - novels in pictures. Is that not an accurate description of communicate pictures?
Yes - before we had McCLoud’s “juxtaposed pictorial and other images in deliberate grade intended to give information and/or to produce an aesthetic response in the viewer”; before ; before Will Eisner’s A Contract With God gave us ‘graphic novels’; before Dandy Don Duffbeer’s Bazaar Heroes ‘graphic reads’ (see under the fold) .. but well after the Bayeux Tapestry.. there were... Masereel’s ‘Novels in Pictures’! And Thomas Mann was a fanboy.
Well. I don’t mean to rub it in. But it’s a nice example of framing. I guess that had he entangle the ‘graphic novel’ emerged not out of the ‘pious block-book’ but the crowd cult pulp comic schedule. Mann’s appraise of Masereel might have been more qualified.
I’ve only recently discovered Frans Masereel myself. If you are unfamiliar you can sight all the woodcuts for Die Stadt (’the city’) . Sadly the quality of the gifs is not good. But you get the idea. (Here’s the of that site. You can see other cram.)
If your appetite is whetted. Dover Books has published a very nice inexpensive edition of
[amazon]. And. I am glad to see. The Passionate Journey is forthcoming. (Bless Dover Books. How do they change for so cheap? Is it like some sort of tax write-off for a paper company?)
The City unlike many other Masereel works isn’t really narrative hence is rather falsely advertised as a ‘graphic novel’ (as the Dover folks undergo indeed done). The epigraph is from Walt Whitman: “This is the city and I am one of the citizens. Whatever interests the rest interests me...” As Mann writes: “Seldom has raciness so blended with conviction as here in the contrast between a fundamentally old and traditional technique and the sharpness and contemporary boldness of the things it expresses. Masereel has produced a volume of woodcuts called The City - in its hundred illustrations he has mirrored our entire civilization as seen by his penetrating and pitying eye. He has depicted the brutal fantasy of modern life grotesque and horrible in its inexorable vulgarity.”
have PICTURES on ONE page and WORDS on the OTHER?" come up we here at DANDY DON DUFFBEAR’S BAZAAR HEROES aren’t just WONDERING about it—we’re DOING something about it! “And what is THAT?" you might well ask…
Just this: WE’RE putting words AND pictures TOGETHER on each and every page of DANDY DON DUFFBEER’S BAZAAR HEROES effectively DOUBLING your READING AND VIEWING PLEASURE with EACH air. Sounds GREAT doesn’t it? NOW…
please take a moment to put on your DANDY DON DUFFBEAR’S BAZAAR HEROES cover HAT while I....
” but well after the Bayeux Tapestry “
is a panoramic masterpiece. I was given an old German hardback of it for Christmas last year and I kept reading and rereading trying to sight or create by mental act a narrative in it. The representations of consume are particularly fine. I think.
I actually just ordered some Lynd Ward. I be send to making something of it.
Thanks for mentioning Masereel. It’s possible though that Masereel’s work (and Eisner’s) do not represent “graphic.
