If the insulin is significantly diminished and the glucagon is enhanced and working all over the be breaking down fats into useable fuel and this furnish is being burned off by the Cell Ovens what do you think our "fat person" is experiencing? Obviously you understand what is going on here. Since the body is not taking on any more carbohydrates it has to find another source of fuel. That source of fuel is the naturally occurring secondary source of stored body fat that the glucagon guys are going around and releasing and converting to fuel. Glucagon converts that fat into a fuel obtain the chemical reaction that takes place is NOT the same as the one that happens when even are used for fuel. You see when fat is converted into fuel it releases a substance called "ketones." Normally ketone production would mean that your body is unable to locate carbohydrates to use for furnish so it is having to resort to fat in the system. come up yea that's what is happening here too but it's not a break. So when you go to your healthcare provider and he or she tells you that you have a high ketone count be sure and express them that you're on a low carb diet. They'll understand and won't be concerned with your high ketone count except for one issue. When your ketones are high your kidneys have to get rid of them for you. If the ketones which are large molecules are filtered out of the body through the kidneys don't undergo LOTS of fluids to wash them through they tend to get stuck in the kidneys and cause all kinds of problems. There's a very simple solution for that. Drink plenty of wet. Don't hold back. Do it drink at least 64 ounces of wet every single day without fail and you will NOT undergo that problem… ok? So if your body is continuously burning fats and does so for a long period of time because you are not introducing a bunch of junk carbs into it the result will be that you'll be much leaner and your cholesterol and triglycerides and other bad things that have been floating around in your blood be adrift will be reduced and you ordain be much healthier. Your energy level will be higher many of the chronic health problems you've been experiencing will either go away completely or will change magnitude significantly. It works folks. There is just too much proof. There may be some problems with the low-carb diet but for the most move it is a highly effective and workable diet. So I was informed that the first 3 days would be the worst. (South beach book) They were fine I was really excited... now 10 pounds later and lighter and finishing up day number 11... I have been having carb cravings like no other. Can someone explain? Thanks C Charlie,200lbs man trapped in a 300 lbs body bringer of peace and jolilityHorder of the Prime RibAll around ladies man. Eh. Some days are sometimes like that. Sometimes it seems like one thing or another I eat will bring it on sometimes I might have a stressful day especially sometimes I don't know why. But for me the longer I do this the more predictable it is overall. Over time. I've identified many of my own craving triggers. If it hangs around. I would look to see what you're eating if there are perhaps outside stressors and/or make sure I was taking my supplements. (For me. I am less likely to have craving issues if I take good care of myself overall get supps and sleep). Maybe others will have other ideas but I tell ya. C unless it's something that continues to plague you over time anything like that where you get a single rough day or two. I would consider a fluke and not overly concern myself with it. Just watch and listen to your bod man and see if it continues and/or you can track it down. People's responses to any change in nutrtion and/or life circumstances are highly individual. I'd even compare it to people's reaction to medications. It's totally a learn-as you-go process.

"The Ancients Knew About Healthy Foods" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-10 03:14:40

BarleyThe Bible is filled with reference to barley which is among the earliest known and most nourishing grains ever to be cultivated. In fact some scholars say The Feast of Unleavened Bread was an ancient barley harvest festival that became the celebration of the Passover. The fact that barley is mentioned so often shows that the people of the period consumed great quantities of this grain which played a vital role in their and healing whether they knew it or not. Roman gladiators were sometimes called hordearii meaning ‘barley eaters,’ because the grain was added to their diet to give them bursts of strength before their contests. In some places barley is recommended as ‘medicine for the heart.’ That same high fiber content keeps us regular relieves constipation and wards off a wide variety of digestive problems. Barley also may help block cancer. As anyone who has done any Bible study at all knows bread was always made from barley or other whole grain flours and was regarded as so vital to good weight management and a long life that it was called ‘the staff of life.’ In one interesting study on animals researchers from the United States Department of Agriculture discovered that the production of LDL was reduced by a remarkable 18% when large amounts of barley were added to their diet. In a follow-up study scientists at Montana State University discovered that a high barley diet had the same effect on people. In that study a group of men ate many foods containing barley including cereal bread cakes and muffins made from barley flour. After six weeks of three servings a day the men’s cholesterol levels dropped an average of 15%. Those whose cholesterol levels were the highest at the start showed the most significant improvement.

"Kimkins 'Cover Girl' Passionately Declares Diet 'Dangerous' After ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 01:30:44

Christin before Kimkins when she weighed 250 poundsChristin said she did this video so that others would "know exactly where I stand on this." She explained why most people decide to lose weight: to alter their health. Period! When you are 100+ pounds overweight then you are not living healthy she noted. She chose the Kimkins program because she "wanted to lose charge quickly and I thought healthfully" because she "wanted more for my life." She wanted to "be there" for her family in the years to come. I think all of us who have ever gone on a charge loss intend can relate to that. The REAL Kimmer is this woman--not the Diaz had alleged in the marketing of Kimkins that she lost 198 pounds in 11 months on this Kimkins diet and was promoting it that way to anyone who would listen with supposed pictures to be it. But it was along with several other sites that made Christin change state concerned and cognise that those claims by Diaz were simply "not true." "Heidi did not suffer the weight she did not go this schedule that she claims is safe for anybody even for diabetics," Christin said. Then Christin turned in her video to the "risks" of being on the Kimkins diet that she discovered first-hand while following the schedule. She said she has real "concerns for everyone else that has attempted this schedule or will act this schedule."That includes first and foremost hair loss. Christin admitted that her hair "started fall out in handfuls" and it "scared" her. She estimates she has lost as much as 60 percent of what used to be "thick beat hair" prior to her Kimkins experience. "Now it's very thin," she exclaimed. Another side effect was the loss of her menstrual cycle that she believes happened from "eating so few calories and my body was becoming malnourished." She said the hair loss and lack of periods are both tell-tale signs of anorexia an eating disorder where victims literally hurt themselves to be change state."I accept now the Kimkins diet schedule promotes a create of anorexia that I don't know if science has change surface attempted touch on this yet," Christin stated. "300 calories a day is not safe weight loss."Any dietary dress this drastic be to be closely monitored by a doctor just like those who undergo gastric bypass surgery do she added. When these symptoms began to show up. Christin went on the Kimkins forums to see if anyone else was losing their hair and female make pass desire she was. "What's going on?" she pleaded to anyone who would listen to her concerns. And Christin said she "saw it come up multiple times" regarding these symptoms she was having in other people too. The excuse provided in response to this happening was that it was "perfectly normal and you're going through a shed. Your body is just losing estrogen." It was just too coincidental that "almost every other person who kept their calories under 1000 calories probably more under 700 calories has lost hair.""I don't want to scare you," Christin said speaking directly to populate who are still following Kimkins. "but I want to bring you into the reality that there is a better way to suffer weight."Christin asks "are you really doing this?" and urges people to take their diet plan to their adulterate for him to examine it. "Take him your Fitday take him exactly what you are eating let him see your calorie counts," she said."I'm concerned about you," Christin pleaded. Christin says she is sorry for supporting the "dangerous" Kimkins dietWhen the measure came for Christin to go into the spotlight back in June when the Woman's World magazine adjoin story opportunity came up she said she was "put on a pedestal as the 'cover girl.' I was the copy. I was the way to do it." But now she realizes how she was used as a pawn and seeks the mercy of those who trusted and looked up to her."I be to ask your forgiveness," she said. "I'm sorry. I was wrong. Kimkins is not the way to suffer weight. Kimkins is dangerous.. for your health it's dangerous for your psyche."But as much as Kimkins cause to be perceived Christin up until this inform none of it was as grave as what was happening to her without even realizing it. She had the symptoms of an eating disturb that she admits made her realize she "had a problem" when she was fearful of change surface consuming some salad out of fear that she'd stall in her weight loss."I did not get fat on salad and on healthy vegetables," Christin explained. "I got fat on sugar and white carbs." Getting over the worry of eating was a very difficult mental test for Christin as she now obsessed over every little bite of food she was eating and how it would impact her on the scale. She revealed that she hasn't met anyone who has been on the Kimkins program who wasn't "literally scared" to add food approve into their diet."What kind of a program is it that makes you scared? Weight loss is not about fear weight loss is about excitement it's about joy it's about recapturing your life," Christin shared with a radiate in her eyes. "It should be a fun journey not a fearful one."And yet worry was exactly what gripped Christin and it would not let go of her."If I wasn't losing everyday then I began wondering what was do by with me," Christin admitted. "Nothing was wrong with me. My be was screaming at me. It was putting the brakes on and telling me you're going about this the wrong way."As a devout Christian she knew that "God created us to eat healthy foods; vegetables and fruits whole grains and yes even fat." Christin reiterated that she believes there is "validity to low-carb programs" like Atkins. Protein Power and the like when they are done the change by reversal way and not the Kimkins way."You will provide your body with all of the nutrients that it needs" when you follow low-carb by the book. Christin shared. "God did not create you to hurt yourself."Outlining the "many dangers within the Kimkins program," she said that it goes much deeper than just an eating disturb. She said that "something is going on within my be" and that it has been manifested in the form of "flutters" in her heart for the past month. "Twinges cramps aches all within my chest cavity right around the area of my heart," Christin expressed sharing that it all came to a head on Monday when the "severe chest pains.. digest aches and nausea" were so great she was admitted to the emergency room staying there until late at night. The doctors examined her with many tests including an EKG daub work chest x-rays and they kept her at the hospital for several hours to monitor her instruct. It's still unknown what caused the tremendous hurt to go on Christin like it did on Monday night but she was prescribed hurt medications and was referred to a cardiologist for an immediate follow-up tour. That visit to the cardiologist took displace on Wednesday who shared several concerns for Christin. With a "more and more serious" look on his approach after hearing Christin's story about her starvation-mode charge loss method compliments of the Kimkins diet he told her flat out that "our bodies can experience alter from eating that little." After conducting more tests on her including an EKG an ECG daub bring home the bacon and "lots of listening with the stethoscope," the cardiologist said he was not concerned about what he called a "normal" low pulse evaluate of 45 (incidentally exploit is in the upper 40's since I lost nearly 200 pounds and Christin has experienced a heart rate in the low-to-mid 40's). change surface still she says she "might get a second opinion on" just to be sure about it. But there were real concerns that the cardiologist had for Christin including "possible alter to my heart nodes and valves from malnutrition." Because of that he wants to have a of Christin's heart to affirm whether or not there is this damage since it was inconclusive from the initial examination. He's also concerned about some "esophageal spasms" that come about whenever there is a "rapid dress in your dietary program and you suffer a lot of weight.""Things can change on your insides," Christin quoted the cardiologist as saying. "that it takes it a while to catch up."She is now medication for this "bother" with the contractions surrounding her esophagus and trying to rest as her body goes through the healing process. Speaking passionately and directly to those who comfort think the Kimkins diet is a safe and effective way to suffer charge in a healthy manner. Christin had an extremely clear and articulate message for them."If I and my story can forbid anyone else from having hurt and having the worry that I did that I might have caused even further damage and by attempting to be for my family I hindered my longevity with them--I was scared to death. That ride to the hospital was one of the most fearful ones that I undergo ever had! My husband was scared at having to face the possibility of losing his wife and his helper and his love," she recalled from her haunting experience earlier this week. When they got to the hospital. Christin said she and her preserve "prayed together" while holding hands hoping for the best in God's hands. And that's something she wants to help others forbid if they ordain simply listen to what she has to say."If I can deliver any of you from having to go through that then it is worth it," Christin concluded. Speaking about her role as the Public Relations head of Kimkins last month and as the adjoin girl on the Woman's World magazine in June. Christin said she did it because she "thought [she] was helping" others as is her heart's wish."It has always been my wish to back up people," she said. "And especially those that I conclude a connection with those who undergo struggled to lose weight their entire lives those who have issues with obesity--something that I know all too well."Christin said taking on those responsibilities entangle like she was "doing my part to give wish to give assurance to sympathize and to empathize" with people who were facing the same struggles that she had trying to lose charge. She still has those feelings for populate who be to beat their obesity which is why she is comfort and participating in again."My heart goes out to you because I know what it's like," Christin stated. "I know the euphoria of losing charge quickly but I also experience the risks and the dangers involved and I am begging with you now to gratify listen to your be desire I've said so many times and do the right thing."She added: "There is a right way and a wrong way to suffer charge. And I am now convinced that starving yourself and utilizing the Kimkins program in that manner is not the right way."Realizing there is comfort a need for a community for populate who wish weight loss the healthy way. Christin said we should all "rest together and hit the books together" the "correct way to use a low-carb schedule to alter each other healthy to be a longer life for our loved ones and our families."Christin said she'll be back to blogging again soon and appreciates the friendship and like that has been shown to her through this horrific undergo."I like you and I'm here for you," she concluded. tour Christin and hit the books more about her continuing low-carb weight loss jaunt at her as come up as the. And if you would desire to contact Woman's World magazine to let them know about your concerns regarding the Kimkins program their enjoin e-mail address is. Perhaps if enough of us let them know about Christin and others who have suffered serious health consequences from being on Kimkins then they may print a retraction. I'm so very sorry to hear about Christin's problems. I would like to respectfully be with her summary that the Kimkins diet is dangerous. At 44. I have been up and drink with weight all my life and dieted since 3rd grade. Someone who is eating only 300 calories a day is truly not healthy mentally. No offense meant as I was not healthy mentally concerning my charge in my 20’s either. My belief is Cristin’s health problems are not a prove of Kimkims but it could undergo been the prove of any diet she chose to loose her weight. Media images comments made to us about our charge and our obsession with beauty is a huge influence as well. Often we blame someone or something for our problems. (Example: Convenient fast foods made me obese; smoking gave me cancer. ‘fill in any name’ diet made me unhealthy my parents ruined my life etc.) As obese people past or present we are generally obsessive and unhealthy about food and that obsession can go either way. In the end we are the ones that are responsible for our health when it comes to what we put in our mouth. Long before Kimkins people undergo experienced many of the problems she is having affix charge loss. Another side affect of weight loss: populate gain back their charge dieters/gastric bypass patients often create other obsessions (spending drinking promiscuity etc.). I have been where she is afraid to eat off intend while following Weight Watchers. Atkins. Nutri System. South land or whatever the diet flavor of the month was. None of those diets were to accuse. It was the way I was thinking and obsessing about food. I’ve never found dieting to be fun as eating food that is good for my body is not as fun as eating bad food. Whoever said 'nothing tastes as good as skinny feels' is a liar. I'll always like food and I'll always struggle with it. Eating healthy is hard work. For anyone who finds themselves afraid to eat or eating less than 1200 calories a day they should seek professional back up from a physician clergy or a counselor. I’m currently eating foods on the Kimkin’s plan. I’m not obsessed with loosing 100 lbs in 5 months and I’m averaging a loss of 9 to 10 lbs a month. Could I do this on another diet? Sure. However because of the low carbs. I’m not as hungry and it helps me choose the good foods desire salad vegetables and meat daily. I do not skip meals. I eat snacks and I eat 1200 – 1500 calories every day. I’ve never missed a period my hair isn’t falling out no heart palpitations absolutely NO laxatives of ANY kind for me!! and I’m experiencing no lighten headed feelings. With age experiencing past failures such as Christin is going through now and common comprehend. I am taking one day at a time with my journey to health and wellness. Please take responsibility for yourself and know when you point the finger at something or someone. 3 more fingers are pointing back at you. I wish Christin and everyone out there in diet and cyber land good health and success

"Low carb research in the works" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-07 23:57:35

It seems like I'm on the once a month blogging plan. But it's with good reason. Since the beginning of the month. I've been working hard to collect participants create by mental act the daub displace scheme create by mental act diets and request supplies for my upcoming dissertation (PhD thesis) project at UConn. For the past 3 years. I've been fortunate to work and investigate along side the great and all-knowing low-carb expert. With Jeff I've looked at the effects of low-carb (very low-carb to be precise) diets on individuals with the dyslipidemia of Metabolic Syndrome and on weight-loss combined with resistance training. My previous research experience at the University of Alberta in Canada revolved around how different types of fat sources alter blood cholesterol levels and cholesterol synthesis rates. In my MS. I did a human feeding study (translation = I cooked all meals every day for my participants) for a be of 4 months. It was tiresome but a good experience. I'm now combining my past experience with my current research to design one of the most interesting low-carb experiments that has ever been done. What I'm doing is cooking all meals again (yes. I'm crazy) for 12 men aged 30-60 for a total of 3 months. This means that I'll be a slave to a kitchen again cooking and preparing a total of 252 meals and 252 snacks each week. It's going to be a lot of work but I'm really looking forward to it. The design is such that I have created a 7-day rotational menu for 2 different low-carb diets that ordain last a period of 6-weeks each. One diet ordain be the typical low-carb diet that is rich in saturated fat mostly from dairy sources (butter cheese and beat). The other diet is the supposed "ideal" low-carb diet that is rich in monounsaturated fat and omega-3 polyunsaturated fat from olive oil canola oil look for and omega-3 eggs. Each man will eat one of the diets in a cross-over design with the first one of the diets being given between the lay of October and the beginning of December and the other mid-February to the end of March (2008). Three weeks prior to all this food being given each man will follow a self-selected low-carb diet for 4 weeks so that their bodies are all adapted to the carb-restriction. The diets are also not "diets" in the traditional sense. The calorie level provided is actually going to be sufficient enough so these men do not suffer weight because in previous published papers from our lab group we are criticised because people lose more weight on low-carb and any.

"Considering Low Carb? Then Consider This" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 17:39:21

several years ago when low carb was super cool to do i tried it for two months i ended up getting super nauseated peed all the time entangle faint and really only lost wet weight i really don't recommend this though i suppose everyone is different i would much rather eat whole grains and fruits and veggies its just not healthy to be low carb i eat whole grains consume 8 glasses of wet a day exercise 6-7 times a week restrict calories and take a multivitamin daily i just feel more vibrant and look way exceed thanks to fit for reminding people that low carb does undergo its caveats. I've never really been a big "no carb" person. I like my oatmeal and brown sieve too much. I DO check my "white" carbs.. flour sugar white rice color bread. I try to alter sure most of my carbs are natural ones.. fruit sugars vegetable starches whole grains. I had a friend who went low carb for a while. She got really constipated so if you do be to try this take a good fiber supplement! I just stopped a low-carb diet. I had so much more energy while I was on it and I did lose a lot of weight in a very bunco time. I drank a lot of water and took a multi-vitamin daily. My dad is diabetic and a low-carb diet has proven best for controlling his blood dulcify and reducing his having to take insulin so I am surprised this article states the diet is not good for diabetics. That being said. I am happy to be on a more "normal" diet/way of eating with charge Watchers. I think there are misconceptions about low carb diets... I have liver problems and my diet is discuss protein and low flavor.. whole grains veggies fruit and lean protein.. very limited simple sugars. You want to eat things that are complex in their make-up which makes processing them much harder. Simple sugars go right to your blood system and cause you to crave more and more of the unhealthy foods that cause weight gain. Most people do not eat whole grains lots of veggies and bear.. so they go low carb as a fast and easy way to suffer weight. But anything that promises such abstain results when it takes three times as desire to put the weight on is not healthy not desire lasting.. and that is why people go on and off of low carb to keep that charge loss. Eating healthy food exercising and staying hydrated will act you looking and feeling good. Those things are not fast changes they are LIFESTYLE changes.
