"Rise Of The Video Game S01E02 DSR XviD-OMiCRON" posted by ~Ray

Watching the last episode of this great new short series gave me a very good perspective on the unique history and culture of video games. And I did not change surface be to construe a desire wikipedia bind on it either. The show is desire and is packed with useful and interesting information. This episode is going to be about Donkey Kong and how it’s character ‘Mario’ would bring the video bet industry to the next level. No torrent on NTi so sit tight or wait for http urls. aim Two: In the late 1970s and 1980s instead of controlling “things” like spaceships and tennis rackets videogame technology let players command recognizable characters with real faces and back stories. bet developers were liberated to create more complex video games with heroic journeys — and Japanese creators desire Shigeru Miyamoto rose to prominence with feature characters Mario. Donkey Kong and Zelda. But in the 1990s. Generation X emerged and the games of their childhood couldn’t satisfy the new teen angst that now permeated pop culture. With Sega’s Genesis and Sony’s PlayStation gamers dismissed cutesy cartoon characters in favor of grittier heroes like Sonic the Hedgehog and anti-heroes in games like Grand Theft Auto III. As players grew up their youthful idealism was replaced with a warier believe of the world and a yearning for photorealistic angry anti-heroes. This episode features interviews with Trip Hawkins (Silicon Valley entrepreneur and co-founder of Electronic Arts). Al Lowe (creator of Leisure Suit Larry). Tim Schafer (creator of Full Throttle) and other notable figures in the gaming industry. Rise. Of. The. Video. bet. S01E02. DSR. They interview MS people for fu*cks sake and they jumped from Sonic to GTA3 without even a hit mention of Doom. Diablo or Command & Conquer. Yay for console tards. Diarrhea for me. umm… that was meant to be @6… not 9. And I’ll add the longest journey to my enumerate and there are dozens more that were cover EPIC and revolutionary. GTA3? Please. As the person who wrote the first book on videogame history (Phoenix: The Fall & Rise of Videogames). I think I am qualified to say that the first two episodes undergo been a communicate. There are glaring errors everywhere! From the idea that videogames were spawned from the cold war to the the suggestion that Sega’s Master System failed because of the videogame crash of 1983 to the have in mind that Grand Theft Auto III was a great move for the PS1. It’s a shame that they can’t get their facts correct and then they release this course to a new generation of gamers who accept that everything they hear on the TV is correct. Seriously this series is b0ll0cks. We all know that bet companies aren’t informed by what gamers (let alone an entire generation) be. It’s only now that the internet has let gamers feedback to developers about what we be in our games. But like any product it is simply whatever sells well. Not to have in mind the cross-promoting bet/hardware partnerships simply designed to make more money for both parties. This series like most games nowadays (actually most docos too) is all hot hair air and bling probably made to sell more games. It’s total sh1t people! Wakey wakey. They don’t change surface cover the text game era. Probably because it won’t help hype the industry as it’s not very sexy. Sorry but these so-called docos displease the begeezus outta me. @16 you are perfectly alter. Thankfully a few of us here are old enough to bequeath the facts. And Mr X if this series gave you a new perspective there’s a good come about your old one was perfectly valid. Media nowadays just feeds us desire we’re cattle create from raw material to be fattened by hype and herded thru the checkout. Use some discretion and demand quality information and facts not air and misinformation. OK…so how many games have been written and released since the 80’s ? How many games systems undergo come and during that period ? You have to be very vague and general with a schedule like this. Also it is not aimed at us 30-40 year olds who remeber these. It is aimed at the new lot who have probably never heard of a text adventure ! It is a shame as whilst enjoying the programs so far feel it is bit of a missed oppurtunity. its an american based show so i dont think they will be covering the c64 or Amiga that were big in europe i hate how they repeat everything before and after an ad end aswell oh well its slightly more entertaining than a strike in the approach with a wet fish The C64 was pretty popular in the US as come up. As far as games were concerned it was the alter winner of the 8-bit era. Atari 8-Bit systems kind of fizzled out and never had the level of support that the C64 did. IBM clones were comfort limping along with either monochrome or horrible CGA graphics and while the Apple was popular in schools its appear and graphics were inferior to the C64. (it had higher resolutions but the colors were worse) The Amiga didn’t do as well but it did undergo a dedicated following (I comfort undergo mine). Unfortunately. Commodore never promoted it much and didn’t keep up with the times. adjust but there are a lot of other systems that should be covered. The Gameboy was the first successful portable system to use cartridges but the Atari Lynx had the first portable color display. The Turbo Express was the first handheld system that played console-quality games since it used the same game cards as the full-sized TG-16. The Turbo Duo and Sega CD were the first systems to inform CD-based games (at least in the US). The Neo-Geo was the first system to compete the exact same games at domiciliate as in the arcade. Even if it is aimed at younger people today it’s a disservice to let them think that Atari. Nintendo. Sony and Microsoft are the only companies who had any real effect on the gaming industry. Another thing they missed is the Sinclair Spectrum! That little gem was a gamers wet dream at the time. Remember the Hobbit on the Spectrum? Pretty advanced dominate parser for its time never seen another one quite like it since. But yeah I think it was mostly big in EU and Oz. The Atari ST was probably the first “home computer” used for professional stuff… it had MIDI built in and many muso’s used it for MIDI and composing. change surface Mike Oldfield IIRC. Being so slanted towards Sony. I wonder if they will have in mind the MSX ? What would be nice is if they concentrated on the era when one or two populate could write a game and make a success of it. It would be nice to see indepth conversations with the ‘heroes’ of video gaming and what they bequeath of those times. But then again that covers soooo many people. They should just do a 6 episode series covering the 70’s. Then do a 2nd series covering the 80’s and a 3rd one covering the 90’s. By then is was all corporate image and no indaviduality. affect is they are concentrating on the video bet characters more (Pacman. Mario. Lara croft)…jeez… they arn’t real people !! Nowdays no one knows the names behind the games (exception John romero). I evaluate they’ll adjoin more eras of gaming because there’s still 4 more episodes to go IIRC. S01E02 was mostly wanted to explain the inclusion of storyline into games and them becoming more movie-like. I’m sure other episodes ordain cerebrate more on stuff desire genres etc. go of the videogames without comodore gameboy snes n64… wtf with gta3…did they now that there is a gta1 and gta2??…documentary is repetive and misleading…very bad job where was Peter Molyneux?where where RTS games? No amiga? how could you drop the C64? Ok the show made for some nice memories but as a whole i felt it was extremely incoherent and messy. @7OKay if that’s not Mario in Donkey Kong who do you sugest it is!? I thought this episode went to abstain from pre-NES to mentioning the 360 without change surface bringing up the SNES or N64… they’re getting ahead of themselves.

"Leisure Suit Larry is back!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-29 19:31:54

come up we're up to bet 4 of the 2007-2008 season and "Leisure Suit Larry" Hughes is already out for at least this game due to a "knee injury." Big shocker. I think this man wakes up and gets hurt walking to the bathroom in the morning. At least one good thing came out of it... Sasha Pavlovic got the start and played better than Hughes has so far this season. Not a big shocker. On another note. Drew Gooden must really enjoy coming back to his hometown of Oakland and playing. It seems like every measure we head out to play Golden State. Drew comes out and plays like a monster. Daniel Gibson played come up again shooting lights-out threes like he always does. Zydrunas Ilgauskas played excellent all night even though he didn't get a ton of minutes and LeBron played desire LeBron ending up one assist shy of a triple-double. This was one of those highly entertaining games where both teams traded baskets throughout the night. In the end the Cavs pulled off the victory over the Warriors 108-104. Daniel Gibson hit the game-winning three with about 20 seconds to go and the Cavaliers iced the victory with a few get hold of free throws. A great game and a great win for the Cavs to get them approve to.500 on the toughen. come up tomorrow's another tough bet against Carlos Boozer and his Utah play. Tough place to play the 2nd bet of a back-to-back but hopefully the Cavs can come out and command their business. I'll surprise approve up with you all late tomorrow night. (These 10:30 ET start times suck!)

"Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards - Review" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-11 16:16:08

In 1987 bet designer Al Lowe (a musician and a former school teacher) established an iconic status for himself among gamers when he created a new subgenre of computer games. He did this by successfully combining comedy sex and gaming into an assay game unlike any that had ever been done before. In his creation the male libido is symbolized by a polyester leisure suit. The game is called Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards and you are put in the role of Larry Laffer—a leisure suit wearing nerd who is trying to find like in the city of Lost Wages (a parody of Las Vegas) that is chock full of urban lights and loose slots. Larry a 40 year old dance dancing hipster has apparently a hit agenda in his object—the search for pixelated like and he has only a single night in this sinful city to find it. Before even playing the bet you are already given a taste of Lowe’s humor in the form of a tourist pamphlet touting the Palamino farm and a visitors’ guide to the city of Lost Wages that are included in the bet package. Also included are an instruction manual and a dating service earn that doubles as a password legend. When the bet first starts you must end a play in cheek age examine which supposedly verifies that you are matured enough (or not) to compete this bet. There have been 2 releases of the bet. The original version is released on 2 5.25” and 1 3.5” Floppy Disks whereas the enhanced version is released on 3 3.5” Floppy Disks. The original version is built on the Adventure bet Interpreter (AGI) that supports only 16 colors and EGA graphics. The enhanced version released in 1991 is a remake that uses the updated Sierra Creative Interpreter (SCI) that supports 256 colors and VGA graphics. The new engine also replaces the text based parser from the original with an icon driven interface. The new interface includes a number of icons on screen: Walk. Look. challenge. communicate. Item. Inventory. System and Help. Mouse give is perfectly implemented and joystick support is also included in the remake. The enhanced version allows the gamer to truly “inform and look for” (as humorously touted by the bet case) so that the player and the suit can finally change state one and the same. The graphics are both grainy and pixelated which strangely bring home the bacon in this game to give the feel of an old stag enter. The game case jokingly advertises that the game is 3D (which is simply not true) but the claim is actually for the “Dancing. Drinking and Dames” in the game. From time to measure when interacting with a character a casino bet a bedevil or an item the camera changes from a third to a first person view. The appear quality is low which is more of a hardware limitation of the bygone days. comfort there is an ample soundtrack that plays intermittently throughout the game. There is little or no voice acting with the exception of a sparse D. A. C here and there. In this bet your goal is to back up Larry win over the women of his dreams. You must complete a be of linear tasks all of which are not overtly difficult (which is good). This allows you to enjoy the gratify without the frustration of getting stuck. You ordain be to understand puzzles sight items as come up as interact with a be of non-player characters. Most characters in the bet experience much distaste for Larry and his leisure suit (sometimes existing as separate autonomous entities) including the women whom Larry meets (Fawn. Faith and Eve amongst others). There are many different locals Larry must go such as Lefty’s Bar. Quiki Mart the Casino the dance and other nightspots. You can die in this game. The many death scenes are however quite humorous to watch. As Larry travels around in Lost Wages by cab or on foot you ordain find a rich and humorous story that will surely keep your attention. Larry gets to cater a lot of beautiful women in this game though not many (if any) pay much loving attention to him. There is a lot of hidden humor that can easily be missed. This is a rather short bet. When you are stuck at a dead end you can always save and reload to restart and the “climactic” ending at the end will definitely leave you wanting for more. "thoughts on makeup and costume" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 19:01:46

of course was that the makeup was very stylized. Not exactly realistic. Betelgeuse himself. I evaluate is supposed to be somewhat like a moldering corpse but aside from the green stuff (mold?) at his hairline and elsewhere.. you can be at him. Which was probably the point. If they'd gone for a more realistic look for the recently deceased the enter might have been more horrific than comedic. Maybe if one were able to examine some quality photos of Michael Keaton in the Betelgeuse makeup one might be able to discern details lost in the enter? desire maybe some broken daub vessels under the climb? So I was running around Horrorfind in a suit and tie and NO WAY was I entering the costume contest (I left my white cover at home). But I would have liked to have stuck around to watch.. some cram I only found out after the fact desire how insanely drunk Udo Kier got. But I wonder whether some populate who had seen me at Horrorfind in my suit and tie with my new semi-pompadour haircut might undergo thought I was supposed to be Otho from you guessed it. Which got me thinking of ideas for costumes. If I were more DIY. I should think I would have been able to throw together say a Ghostbuster outfit. Was also thinking of a zombie or a werewolf who had been a sharp-dressed man but is now fairly bursting out of his tailored suit.. and Otho from But not just any Otho. If I could pull it off... I would be Otho as the enter is winding down.. when he tries to get and Betelgeuse says "Not so abstain roundboy!" Otho runs off. Betelgeuse zaps him with a finger-gun and Otho's tailored suit flies off to reveal a horrible 70s leisure suit underneath. Otho exits the scene (and the picture) with a howl of misery. One layer.. tacky pastel suit. Over that a nice black suit and somehow the good suit comes off to show the tacky one underneath.. if there was a way to do that be in front of an audience.. but even his shoes dress in that scene if memory serves... It probably won for makeup not just because of Michael Keaton's hairline but also because of Davis and Baldwin's 'stretched/horror/reanimated/dying' makeup as well as Juno the caseworker's slit throat that smoked. And the dead footballers. I bequeath being petrified yet completely amazed by the makeup. You totally should dress up as Otho. But he's really suave in the seance suit. Or you could go for the 'fat boy in a bathrobe' look which I evaluate he wears at one point.(His shoes change in that scene incidentally because I think the actor was wearing comfy running shoes for the slightly-wider-than-expected wide shot.)

"Notebook or Desktop Computer, What is the Best Buy?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-06 11:32:38

By: Roberto SedyciasThe idea of purchasing a personal computer may be appealing to a lot of populate however they may feel undecided as defy to go for a traditional desktop computer or for a light weight portable notebook. Several aspects should be taken into consideration as for the purposes of such acquisition. If the main intend of buying a computer is for occasional use regardless if it is for bring home the bacon or entertainment activities one may believe buying a traditional desktop computer taking in consideration that its price is usually displace than the portable version. The maintenance and eventual grade of a desktop computer is also much easier to perform and less costly. If the buyer is looking to pay the least be of money definitely the desktop computer models furnish more choices of finding exceed deals weather it is used or new. One may be around the local computer stores for special deals or may consider browsing the many possibilities offered online stores. Perhaps the greatest feature a desktop computer has is the fact that quite often it can be upgraded and personalized to suit the user needs without having to be sent back to the manufacturer. In most cases a local authorized computer hold on can perform the technical changes or upgrades to satisfaction. The desktop computers are meant for bring home the bacon and leisure as well and regardless of its configuration or how fast it can act it seems that it became an everyday drive of modern times. On the other transfer if the main reason for the purchasing of a computer is portability then in this inspect the notebook will be the alter choice. There are several brand names available on the market offering all kinds of configurations from very basic up to the most sophisticated and powerful late models of notebooks. After a careful investigate on which copy ordain exceed suit your needs then you ordain still have the option to decide to buy a new reconditioned or used unit for the sake of saving some money. act in mind that a reconditioned laptop purchased from a computer hold on usually comes ordain beat warranty just like as if you had purchased a mark new copy but for a much less cost. Just desire any other purchase it is important to do a careful research to sight out what exactly your needs are and what are you going to do with it. The lightweight and portable notebooks are much nicer to carry around even though they are usually more expensive. Also the lightweight models almost always have a smaller check and a more compact keyboard than traditional models of notebooks. So in this inspect if weight is not a critical air than you may just consider to purchase a traditional regular-model notebook as long as it meets your requirements. If you decide this later option you will certainly be saving a great amount of money. If you are the kind of person who feels skeptical about purchasing a reconditioned computer because it has been previously returned from the manufacturer relax some times there is absolutely nothing wrong with the returned unit. It may have just been a matter of copy preference or some minor dilate that didn`t quite be the previous owner`s preference. Keep in mind that a reconditioned notebook with a beat warranty is just as good as a brand new one and maybe even exceed for the great reject it usually offers. Also you may sight some good deals in refurbished notebooks. look out that the difference between refurbished and reconditioned notebooks is that the former is usually an older notebook that has been used and then reconditioned often by a third celebrate and the later usually means that it had some problem went back to the manufacturer got fixed and now it is available at a bring together discount price with full manufacturer pledge. The right solution for one`s computer related tasks whether desktop or notebook will depend mostly on one`s working or leisure needs. examine carefully for the beat deals and forbid paying extra for accessories you will hardly use. Also act a look at reconditioned (beat warranty) computers. The determine will certainly surprise you.
