"Shoulder" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-07-01 07:21:58

I went through periods this summer when my left shoulder was sore. I'd ice it take ibuprofen and do my rotator cuff exercises. It was pretty sore about a week and a half before SOMA but by the measure of the go it was book. It was also fine after the race for about a week and a half. I haven't swam since then and only did shoulders lightly in one workout. But my bring up is jacked up!I went to the Dr yesterday and she was able to displace my arm around easily when I was trying to resist which has never happened before. I go in this afternoon for an MRI and ordain have the results Tuesday. It's one thing after another seems like that anyway. If I have to have surgery. I will still be able to walk and bike all winter. If she tells me I can't swim anymore I've already decided I ordain learn how to swim with one arm if I have too! (But I don't evaluate that will be an issue). I hope for the beat in all the issues that you are dealing with. Concerning your shoulder you may be to be at your go technique. I had shoulder problems until I mastered the high elbow pull technique which removed much of the compel off my shoulder and improved my swimming a great deal. Big D - I don't know what you are going through but I wish you the beat.. and good luck with the shoulder... I'm sure unfortunately you'll have more than that injury to deal with on your journey - good thing you are a strong-willed MAN! My wife and I were really frustrated one day. Many things were on our minds and so many populate were starting to get on our nerves. We were going to lunch with some friends one day and had to let out some steam. I told Nicole that on the count of three we were going to scream really loud. (Screaming in the car).1....2....3.... Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Things changed a little after that day. Not only was it worth a good laugh it allowed some steam to be let loose. You and your family our in our thoughts and prayers. Hang in there buddy and apply the pass months!!

"Silverman Half Ironman 2007" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 00:16:29

I just did the Silverman Half Ironman this last Sunday which is a GREAT race! It's run like an Ironman Series go in that they alter you hand in all your gear and bike the day before. They have wetsuit strippers and people who hand you your biking bag (or running bag). Then you go into changing tents where there are more volunteers who help you get all your cram out and get dressed and get on your bike or out to run! It's a great go and is the best organized/supported race I have seen (besides Brad's World's Toughest Half) and well worth doing. Yes the cover is hard. There were change surface hills on the swim! The wind picked up before the swim and made the conditions very difficult for most of the swim (2-3 pay waves once you got past this protect barrier). The ride course is multiple extended Sandhill Road write climbs with the added bonus of a headwind. Then there is this crazy bike path at the end where there are three 18% grades just like my driveway (actually it's Mike Miller's and Marian Davidson's driveway) which I ordain never express again at the end of all my rides because it turned out to be great training for this course! And after you get up my three driveways there is a gradual uphill that goes forever into the oblivion of the desert to Henderson that is really not that steep but because of the headwind it's like going up Old La Honda or King's Mountain which I instruct on all the time. So... the bike portion went well for me. The run is also a lot of strung together Sandhill road climbs with a few nice downhills you can recover on. But mostly you are going up Sandhill road many many times. This is not a course for the black out of heart. It's not as hard as fasten's World's Toughest Half; I'd say it's about the same aim of difficulty as Horning's (Enviro Sports) Napa Half though I evaluate the run leg in Horning's go is a little tougher. How does it compare with Wildflower Long cover you may ask. I've done this go 12 times in my 24-year triathlon go and Wildflower used to be a nice race ("used to" is defined as 7 years ago). Now it's not even in the same league as these grass-root races as far as athlete support determine for your money difficulty of terrain (Wildflower is a dance compared to the above mentioned races) and that personal comprehend from the go director that is missing from big races such as Wildflower. The Silverman is come up worth doing.... if you are a nut desire me who loves hills and challenging terrain and hates to see the toughen end andrea ivan

"New IronMan movie website up" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 14:40:36

Just saw that a new website for the press Man movie is all and running. (). Pretty standardy stuff shows the trailer (still good) with a little blurb on the story some stills and cast info (with bio’s of their onscreen personas). But the interesting thing is that they undergo a where people can upload art and the internets can look at them and rate them. I don’t know why I put quotes around fan art approve there but I’m just going with it. There don’t seem to be very many submissions and it doesn’t necessarily seem desire something that ordain be overly successful but it was a good thought. ← newer older → I agree the website is totally generic. You could act ever super hero movies website and almost put a transparency over them and they would all match up. Sell tickets I guess. "Ironman World Championships 70.3" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 21:01:00

I decided to pay the week getting acclimated to Florida. I spent 2 days in Jacksonville then spent 2 days in Tampa and finally checking into my race hotel on Friday night. This became a problem because my race shoes had not shown up by the time I left. Not a problem...(right!). Not only was this the first time I was going to use these shoes but they were a different shoe than I had been running in. I have raced in the T4's all toughen and they were shot. So I got a new pair of T5's sent to me. Hoping that they wouldn't blackball my feet too much. Yet another dilate of what not to do. So the whole don't try anything new on go day.. yeah.. let's forget about that. It became even more stressful when I found out that all of our stuff had to be in our bags the night before. Problem with that is Nan didn't fly in until 7 pm and I had to have my stuff there by 6 pm. Back-up shoes in the bag... Woke up at 5 am and took a consume. Gotta get clean to get dirty right? Out of the 10 populate staying in our displace only 2 of us were racing. So they had a nice little party the night before. Didn't bother us at all because we were knocked out in the back dwell. Made my standard PB bread and had to hunt for some coffee. We were going to walk down to transition when at the bottom of the stairs we run into a friend of JC's. She offerred to furnish us a ride up to convert. Great!! That's 10 min of walking saved. This day is going well. Now it was measure to start operation smile and flirt!! Operation smile and flirt went like this: Dan walks up to 14 yr old girls "watching over" the convert bags. Hey girls.. how's it going? I really appreciate you being out here helping us out. (Girls giggle) Smiling really big... Is there anyway one of you can do me a huge favor that ordain really help me out today? (Girls giggling more: Yeah.. anything) Can you put these shoes in that red bag alter behind you. I don't experience what I'd do without you girls. Race shoes go in bag. You are awesome! Thanks again... And that is how Operation grimace and Flirt went down. Watched the pro's head off into the water and then my friend JC who was in the 3rd wave. Finally around 7:30. I put my wetsuit on and made my way to the start line. I was nervous but knew I just had to go all out and do what I could. Mad props to Nan who was there to remind me to take my Energ-Ease and Gel before the go start and at the right time. She also kept my nerves in check that morning. IronSherpa rocks!! I had decided that if any race I could draft this was going to be it. I was about 4 rows approve and in the middle when the cannon went off. I charged into the glide and was swimming before I knew it. I was going to go hard and find some feet quickly. The first 200 meters was chaos!! Bodies everywhere everyone holding their line. I got smacked in the approve of the head once and jostle to the eye and numerous transfer slaps to various parts of my body. After the first 200 or so it became less crowded but people were still in a huge pack. I found Orca boy (red right side with color goggle bind) who was swimming a bit faster than me. I hung onto his right calf for my life. For the first measure. I was actually able to compose and hold it. It was like I was on a recovery go sitting there. I immediately knew when I lost him because it became harder to swim and I didn't see the red flash. I didn't sight at all until the turn buoy. We each did a spinning turn and I continued to stay to his inside. After the turn back to the land. I lost him because the Sun was right in my eyes and we all took the turn wide to the left. I decided to stick to the bouy line and was all by myself. I thought I was wrong at first but eventually everyone came back to me. As I approached the pier. I came across Orca boy again but lost him when I got side swiped by a slower swimmer. Basically. I was too change state to the buoy lie and ran right up on him. By the measure I got around he was gone. Problem was that I ended up relaxing way too much after the turn around because I was concerned if I was going the alter way and trying to find more feet. I should have just swam hard and waited for feet to come by me. Came out of the wet well and struggled through the sand. I could hear my friends yelling at me and it was very encouraging. I got my top off and headed to the strippers. They did an awesome job and I grabbed my bags quickly. I had placed 2 sets of gloves in my bag because of the potential cold. Also a set of arm warmers.(NO.. not the she-beest) I decided to go Sans arm-warmers because I knew it was going to get change out there. I took probably 30 seconds more than I should have in there but it was worth it to make sure I had the right gear.. desire socks!! Ok.. this was a very intense ride. I started out and got my feet into my shoes without too much issue. It still amazes me how many people get to the mount line stop and then fiddle with their shoes. Going down course even at 2 mph is better than standing in one sight. After speaking to Jorge. I decided that I was going to go as hard as I could and see where it took me. I told everyone that my intend was either to have a great race or be walking at mile 10. Either way I would be happy. The first 5 miles or so were a blur. I got into a routine and felt comfortable pushing the pace. I knew going out of the city was a false flat with some rollers (from my recon drive before transfer) so I kept the cadence high but the compel on. Then the road narrowed down and it became kinda tight quarters. Around mile 5 or so. I came by Jorge. I didn't accept him until I was by him and then noticed the abstain splits sticker on his helmet. I nodded and we kept pushing. This is where a pack started to form. There were a handful of us that basically didn't be to go around drink and didn't want to get wheel sucked from. So I would drop the hammer get out in front and about 5 of us would set up a distanced walk line. Then the go around suckers came by tightly. When I saw a break in the pack. I pulled out and hammered again. I figured that if they were going to suck wheel. I was going to make it hard for them to do it. Plus I was feeling very comfortable amazingly enough. So many carrots out there it was nuts!! A compose marshall came along just as the wheel suckers shot by me so I watched what he was going to do. He handed out some penalties but the problem was that now a pack was forming behind him. We didn't want to go the motorcycle so we were kinda stuck. After he rode off it was hammer time again. This happenned a couple of times until the turn around. Then it was GAME ON!! I knew this divide was flat and abstain!! No turns just head down follow the white line until you explode. What made it even better was that there was a tail wind at about our 5'oclock. I had been with 955. 1047 and another rider pretty much all day so we kept exchanging the lead and pushing each other. It was like mucsical leap capture!! Saw the marshalls a couple of more times and he nabbed some more blant wheel suckers. When I Passed the first penalty dwell it was literally standing room only. Women men.. didn't be. I gave a silent grimace to myself. Once the road openned up it was heaven! For the first measure in a race. I was one away from my smallest cog (12/13) in the rear and not mashing. I purposely didn't put the speed up because I didn't want to look. Only distance and the markers were within.1 each time. One time we were all hammering along and the draft marshall.

"Some Vitamin Supplements to Enhance Your Ironman Training Diet" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 22:20:39

There are a entertain of choices for supplementing your Ironman fast. I’ll furnish you descriptions of a few that I open helpful to my Ironman training and racing. I won’t remove too deeply into the world of vitamins. This is an area beat left to the experts. As I said earlier if I undergo not used a product or fast or anything else concerning Ironman training. I won’t recommend it. Here are a few of the supplements I had good success with. I always made a point of including the anti-oxidants vitamin C. Vitamin E and Selenium to my enumerate of vitamins. Actually I would buy the vitamin C with Selenium added. Their main function was to act as a deterent to the forming of free radicals in your be when you eat unsaturated fats. It seemed that every few years. Ironman Canada featured a “really” cold swim. It doesn’t reach a lot of populate but I had quite a hard time with it. Being super low in body fat has its disadvantages. I came across the vitamin add pantothenic Acid that plays an important role in energy production. I also discovered that pantothenic acid is a key antioxidant for athletes who compete in extreme conditions especially cold wet. I added it to my vitamin choices and never had problems with cold water again. If the location of your first Ironman is in a move of the world where warm water is no pledge. I would highly advise using it. Otherwise it probably isn’t a necessary choice for you. If you do purchase it what you ask for is calcium pentathonate the calcium flavor of pantothenic acid. I also noticed an improvement in energy levels when I used branch arrange amino acids. Amino acids the molecules that make up every protein in our foods and bodies and can also function as anti-oxidants. I accept this vitamin supplement would be valuable to almost anyone doing the intense training demanded to prepare properly for an Ironman Triathlon. It also compensates if your fast is a bit lacking in protein. I was on such a high carb diet that this choice was ideal for me. My all-time favorite for a supplement is L’carnatine. I could act this one and three weeks later be five pounds lighter. I also sight a marked impovement in my energy aim and recovery from training. Every Ironman hopeful should furnish this a try. Its “very” expensive but well worth it. If you can sight it. I would use it. I accept its available over the answer in the U. S. So there you have it. Thats the vitamin package I use leading up to an Ironman. It took years of hit and miss to finally come up with this combination. All the doses except for Vitamin C and Selenium were 500 mgs. I would take more (1000) vitamin C with 50 mgs of Selenium added. I also had a lot of success with algae products and its something I would certainly be into. Regardless anyone doing the demanding training needed to impove their Ironman chances should seriously consider vitamin supplements. NOTE: Don’t fall into this trap……. If something works really well for you don’t assume that more will be change surface better. be with the amount that seemed to make a difference. Training for Ironman competition over a 20 year period gave me the opportunity to try many vitamin supplement combinations. My wish is that you sight this information useful in preparing for your first ironman triathlon. "IronMan Movie Trailer" posted by ~Ray

I had serious doubts about this movie until I saw the trailer. I especially liked how they used the Black Sabbath song ‘press Man’ in the trailer… it seems…. Now I can’t act for it to come out. This one just might be the one to fix Marvel’s current box-office droop. May 2nd/08 won’t come soon enough. This entry was posted onSaturday. September 15th. 2007 at 6:07 pmand is filed under. "Ironman champion interviewed" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 13:18:15

Last night I attended an converse of Normann Stadler the two-time reining Ironman world champion. The interview was organized by Competitor Magazine and the Triathlon unify of San Diego. The newly-opened Coastal Sports & Wellness Medical Center was kind enough to host the couple hundred triathletes who showed up for the Chipotle burritos and be converse with host Bob line. Stadler kept the audience entertained with his German accent and anecdotes of his younger days winning races in his homeland. It was amusing to learn that Stadler actually fears swimming in the ocean and trains primarily in the share. Among recapping measure year’s win in Kona the controversy between him and Chris McCormick resurfaced once again because we all love drama and it’s good for the sport right? It was interesting to learn that Germany. Stadler’s country of origin has developed quite the following for triathlon. In fact last year Germany broadcasted live race-day coverage from Kona. Hawaii--logging over 23-million viewers! The third weekend of October. Germany ordain again broadcast the Ironman world championship as the feature continues to grow in popularity. measure year coverage aired in the US on December 9 with a similar plan expected this year. You can always log-on to the web for live race-day coverage (analyse out the Ironman website for more info). What I think worth mentioning is the fact that in most parts of the country (object perhaps. San Diego birthplace of triathlon) most populate wouldn't recognize this international icon if they passed him on the street. But to the room full of triathletes who gathered for the converse. Stadler represents the pinnacle of triathlon excellence. Each individual in that room who trains and aspires to compete in races of all distances is inspired by what Stadler stands for. Thus leaving the interview I was fired up and excited for the weekend as I am an I drove straight to my local bike obtain and picked up my ride which just had When I got domiciliate and flipped-on the television to an interview of Lokelani McMichael the youngest female Ironman competitor. This got me even more pumped-up so I organized and set out my cycling gear on the floor of my room for my go into bring home the bacon this morning before calling it a night. So ask yourself this: What inspires you? I convey what makes your heart defeat fast and gives you goose-bumps? What stirs those bottled up emotions in a call-to-action? What does it take to get you off that couch and outside? Find that heart and cater it what it needs to assay and take you places: physically mentally emotionally and spiritually. The meeting last night was really fun. Normann is a very talented athlete. He was very professional too. I get really inspired when I hear about add up every day people overcoming battles and doing Ironmans and marathons. I love the Challenged Athletes Foundation because of that. Those guys are incredible! The latest hot topics news and updates from the Endurance Sports world. We cover topics from various sports so don't be shocked if you see a running related affix on the cycling community. In the end it's all relevant in one way or another. :)
