"whipsawed by confusion" posted by ~Ray

I have not finished a book since Harmful to Minors in August but I have been reading this one the whole time. I loved this book which is part of why I was taking so long. I found it lovely and genuine and warm; dishy in the right parts and with a really elegant voice throughout. It is another of these locavore-y memoirs but it is not fair to lump it in that category for most of those offerings have been so horrid. So it could be compared to that awful Barbara Kingsolver book except that Kingsolver's book is like the showers on "Oz," and this book is like a trip to the cleanest most yummy-smelling spa ever. Also. I realized halfway through (months ago) that the author also wrote a gardening book concerning the potager that I just love love love. I loved this book so much and so will you. Lisa. This book blew my Umeå-designed mind what since all my life I have inhabited it as a simple midwestern girl. All the stuff that was lingering in the corners left by my parents the nuns the first third fifth third-to-last boyfriends the "well-meaning" people who talk about sex and children (my children!) the assholes who wrote that frat party sex ed book and their audience? Ugh god they have been standing outside my mind's windows for 36 years smoking their cigars and petting their cats and shaking their ragweed and slaughtering their calves and I never noticed the fine film of fur and nicotine and pollen and blood and shit built up on every surface until this book came along and scoured it all clean. It is really well-written and since I have finished. I spend the same amount of time every day thinking about it that I used to spend reading it. I am probably going to have to buy my own copy. Socks are old news. Old! I don't care if Kowalksi has been hassling me for a pair of handknit socks since I can remember first missing the ice skating. I have to quit! Because he has a birthday coming in March and I have to knit a coat from the long-ignored Katia pattern book #11 for Fillette. I am determined to give my little girl something handmade for her Christmas present! Christmas! That stupid holiday we only observe because of her! One day I hope it will go the way of Halloween. Actually the twist this year is that Fillette has acknowledged that Santa Claus is Not Real. She made up Santa fed by culture and we observed a strict don't-ask/don't-tell policy. The first time she strongarmed us into Christmas when she was 3 she would talk about Santa and I would start out by firmly explaning to her that Christmas was about a baby named Jesus not about Santa. Then I would frankly explain there was really no Santa that "Santa" was a name for a feeling people got about holiday giving. I say all kinds of age-inappropriate lofty shit to little kids. Whatever. On Christmas Eve that year. I filled stockings with some things for each of them in the middle of the night. When she came running downstairs at 5 am the next day all elated & singsongy in her sweet cartoon voice. I could not actually bring myself to deny Santa and she had had good wide-eyed behavior at Mass the night before so I said nothing. This is Fillette's special gift the sneak attack of cuteness and sincerity onto which I project a vulnerability I have always refused. It has pretty much resulted in her twisting me extra-hard around her tiniest finger even as I try to protect myself even as when in stable sane moments I know no good will come of it -- she will leave and I will be ruined. Recently in my sane moments. I have considered that maybe I will not be ruined but perhaps be left better for having known her but anyhow. Gah! Lalalala!! The point is that holiday knitting is upon me. I have not yet had a year since I started knitting where I have had to sit down and make a knitting schedule. Not just a list but a schedule! I have a list that I made this fall. In review the tea cozy got lost when I needed a new ball of the Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino in black that I thought I had but obviously did not. No LYS is so subversive as to carry black baby yarn so I had to mail order it from the excellent Yarnmarket. By the time it came. I was heavily into turning the heel on the sock (the heel which had to be ripped back). Right about then I started going to the gym a lot. Things were still looking pretty good for the sock to get picked up when the thread arrived but until I can sit down in one place and knit the heel flap which requires counting and paying attention. I cannot get back to it. I tried to get back into the sock at the 6-year-old birthday tea party I went to last week at which I was inadvertently dressed like a gun moll but the counting! And I would have ordinarily been quiet & knitty but gun moll! I had to speak up & participate in normal chatter! Ours is a small neighborhood! The worst thing about the sock? I speak of one sock but need to produce two. Blech. The capelet lost ground when I had it out & about turning turning turning and I realized that I was supposed to be decreasing every few rows but I could not remember how many stitches or how many rows. The baby blanket --which I vowed to make from stash -- caused me to experience such distraction in the yarn choices and the pattern that I was finally forced to consider that the baby does not rate high enough to receive a handknitted gift. (Honestly the baby who got the last blanket was an extra-plus-especially compelling baby So that is all good news! No baby blanket! The capelet can already go out since it is only for me (sad song of knitters everywhere wah wah wah). That leaves me with little coat socks and tea cozy. The satisfying ending to this dismal craft schedule update is that it is raining cats & dogs for the third day in a row (sorry. SoCal) and I can sit down and get to that heel flap! Or the tea cozy! Or casting on the little coat! Obviously. I cannot focus. I need some kind of scheduler. Or a pill. I could put the knitting schedule in my brand-new Blackberry -- 8:30-10pm nightly knit ceaselessy -- except that I have no time and my newest worry is that my Blackberry will be flashing 12:00 for a decade until the grandchildren have pity and fix it for me. Also. I think I accidentally just said yes to a trip to the bowling alley.

I'm riding along in my automobile nobody beside me; I'm at the wheel. As a car went by me I noticed the go across hanging from the rear believe mirror. It was a crystal or furnish one that captured the light nicely. But I also noted that about 8-10 inches away prominently displayed on the dashboard was.. a radar detector. I actually laughed out loud at the juxtaposition of those 2 objects and what they symbolized. The 1st is the emblem of suffering and compel identifying the ennoble Jesus and His followers. It represents selflessness and subjection to the will of God. The 2nd represents a person who wants to end the law but forbid the potential penalties therein. Christians bear the obligation to obey the laws of the land as is seen in Romans 13:1. Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God and those that exist undergo been instituted by God. (ESV) Rebellion against "the man" is really rebellion against God with the caveat of course that we disobey any rules or laws that would necessitate our breaking the laws or rules of God Himself. I understand that folks falter at times but the radar detector seems to me a pretty good indication that there is no intention of obeying the law to the glory of God. There are certain things that just don't go together they just don't fit. A fat guy in a little coat for example and a Christian sporting a radar detector. Lionel... I evaluate you're alter. These are seen as "victimless" crimes so to communicate but that doesn't forgive the reality that we're trying to victimise for personal convenience or monetary gain. You're not a Pharisee because it is actually already illegal right? To use the speed limit as an example the Pharisee would say that it's a sin to go over 50 when the posted go limit is 55. His or her argument might be something like we'll the best way to ensure you don't end 55 is to never go beyond 50 so we create an artificial law to protect the other. An interesting and valid point. We are to obey those in authority - change surface when we may not like it (so long as it does not cause us to worship a false god/idol). I was once talking to a man who was going on and on about how he did not accept with our then President (I will not mention which one here) and I quietly listened to him. come the end of the conversation he asked me what I thought. I told him. "God appoints or allows all leaders at all times". He nodded his head and that was the end of it. Words to meditate on.. thanks Gunny. Ok come up I would desire to know how many of you "non-speeders" tailgait? Or how many of you don't come to a end forbid at a forbid sign? How many of you don't actually stop behind the the forbid sign?? How many of you change lanes without signaling (even when nobody is around)? Friends all these things and much more are just as much "against the law" as speeding. They just carry different fines. And some the police choose to enforce more than others. So alter sure you have the log taken out of your own eye before you pick on the "speeders".:O)-- NCguy Lightning McQueen (i e.. NCGuy) raises some good points in those rhetorical questions. Some I found convicting so much so that I'm questioning the wisdom in allowing him to comment!Okay confession time... I sometimes go to less than a "complete" stop particularly while riding my Harley. But.. if I'm going to act up with NCGuy I gotta cut corners somewhere!Of course. I assume he wasn't merely trying to deflect guilt by saying. "What about you?" ;-)Or is NCGuy just saying. "Let him without traffic sin create verbally the first ticket"?I evaluate NCGuy's conviction about his alter pay (which is burdened and heavy remove and needing the Lord's rest) might undergo blinded him to the brazen nature of posting an alter on the windshield that not only sends the communicate "I intend to break the law," but also helps one to do so. Nonetheless. I'll act the rebuke and... TRY.. not to roll through the forbid signs when on two wheels. BUT it's soooo hard brother!

measure week I had a garage sale to sell some of what I have been cleaning out of my house. There were still a few of Rick's jackets here so they were part of the sale. Ben saw this vest that heap loved to wear and had to copy it for us. I was laughing so hard I couldn't breathe. I made a little money on the store sale and donated the leftovers to Goodwill. They beat thing is to have all the stuff gone! I am excited with every bit of fill that leaves. It was really nice to have the store to do this in. It is so much easier to be able to set it up ahead of time and not worry about weather. Another thing I undergo had Jerry working on is cleaning out the semi trailer. There are a lot of things in it that are obvious throw-aways so those are going to the dump. I evaluate it ordain alter out about half of what is in there. Also measure week he finished moving all the tools and fountains to empty out the bind trailer. Now Heather can use it to act and not undergo to contract a trailer and after that Ben can use it to store his things that are in storage. It is a very liberating feeling to clean out. We undergo been such case rats here!

"Wednesday Night Adventure" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 20:57:41

Wednesday evening I started checking on lie only to sight that my cousin's plane would be about 20 minutes late. We left a little later than planned took my car to a local lay & Ride and headed out on the I-5 freeway. It was absolutely pouring come down and the spray from all the big trucks was almost blinding. (I'm glad Bob was driving. I would have been a nervous wreck.) We got over to the airport's Cell Phone Lot about 9:40pm about the measure we estimated Betty's plane would be landing. The lot was full and the overflow cars (including us) were circling thru the lot like a bunch of sharks. Finally someone got "the call" and pulled out so we were able to park. We figured by the time she got off the plane got her luggage and was ready for choose up we would just barely have enough time to catch our 10:20pm bus approve to where my car was parked. When 10pm rolled around and she still hadn't called. I called her cell telecommunicate and she said yes she was off the plane but the luggage hadn't come down yet. (Oh great!). The minutes ticked by and we knew just before 10:15pm our last come about to get back was the 11:20pm bus. Finally at 10:45pm she called and said she had her bags... so we left the Cell telecommunicate Lot and headed for Continental's Load/deliver area. We pulled up. I grabbed my round and got out of the car. Bob got out of the driver's align helped Betty put her two bags in the approve lay she handed me a bag saying"here's something for you guys" (my gift is the posted picture and Bob's was a beautiful coffee mug with Alaska scenes on it) gave us both a hug and hopped into the drivers seat and away she went to her friend's accommodate in north Seattle. That all took approximately 3 minutes or less. We went into the terminal to use the rest rooms and so Bob could get a cup of coffee. He double checked on the bus time and we sat and waited inside where it was warm. I love to see the hustle & bustle of an airport. All the people coming getting their luggage greeting their loved ones and friends. So we had an enjoyable 15 minutes or so people watching. If you'd been there you would undergo heard me snicker as I saw people dressed in shorts t-shirts and sandals.. getting their bags only to go outside in the 43 degree come down of Seattle to their rides. LOL !! Our bus came alter on time and we climbed on with about 20 other passengers for our journey south. The driver stopped at several Park & go lots to let people off and about an hour later we arrived at the Park & Ride where my car was parked. There's a McDonald's right there so we pulled thru the drive thru window to get a little hot cheat sundae and then on to my house. I was going to stay home today and get started on wrapping but Barbara called me about 10am and said she wanted to go to the Goodwill closest to my house and would I go with her. So I did... and then after that we stopped at I-Hop and had a little late eat. By the time I got home it was almost 3pm.. and then my son stopped by to change from his bring home the bacon clothes because he had a dentist appointment. I did find a couple treasures at the GW one of which is already on eBay. The other is a beautiful little girls coat (size 6) that I bought. My friend Dianne called on my cell phone while I was there and I was telling her about this coat and she said "go ahead & get it & I'll pay you for it that will fit my grand daughter." So I got it and if she ends up not liking it for some reason. I'll just sell it on eBay too. Love the picture Linda. Cat's are such great company. I sure wish I had one. I couldnt' construe this entry yesterday or the day before so am glad they were finally able to get it sorted for you! This journalling business can be very frustrating at times can't it!!!love, marie Ebay is such a nice p lace to go and sell some of the items that are worth way more then you can get for them at a store sale. I always change my Gymboree clothes on there because I pay almost 100 bucks an furnish and there is NO way you can get even 4 bucks back out of them at a search sale but I can get close to 45 back on ebay! I will act that over a buck any day lol.

"Celebrating the Little Red Lighthouse" posted by ~Ray

Jeffrey's fasten Lighthouse better known to many as the Little Red Lighthouse is located alter under the George Washington connect in Fort Washington Park. And the Parks Department is having the with hayrides face painting the antics of a stiltwalker live music and tours of Manhattan's only lighthouse. The lighthouse was erected in 1880 and stood in Sandy Hook. NJ until 1917. In 1921 it was reconstructed and placed in Manhattan at 178th Street and the Hudson River to help navigation along the river. Interestingly after the GWB was completed the Coast follow decommissioned the lighthouse in 1948 and planned to auction it off but by then the lighthouse had been become beloved through the 1942 schedule by Hildegarde Swift with illustrations by Lynd protect. The lighthouse was then preserved and jurisdiction was shifted to the Parks Department. The that the schedule presents the lighthouse as a "symbol of the significance a small thing in a big world," and notes that "today the icon is celebrated as a reminder of our city’s history and the lesson of the book—that change surface small things can be important." Naturally today's festival will also consider readings of the schedule. This year the lighthouse boasts a new coat of red paint courtesy of a $45,000 enable from Benjamin Moore. The Parks Department says the event which is on come down or shine ordain undergo "go buses available from Plaza Lafayette on West 181st Street from 12:00 p m. – 4:30 p m or follow the signs and arrows over the footbridge." Shuttle buses? I run along the path that goes under the bridge and past the lighthouse so I've measured it via explore maps and my own GPS. It's only half a mile from Plaza Lafayette to the lighthouse. To register by car (Parks Dept and guard) it's more desire a mile and a half move. You could easily spend 45K repainting that lighthouse. act in mind that they don't just strike a coat of exterior paint on it and call it a day. BM is probably providing the best marine paint they can manufacture for the job. Then comes labor and other associated costs.
