"Boys vs. Men" posted by ~Ray

The problems that Notre Dame has encountered in 2007 are not solely related to the youth of the roster. Coach Weis and his cater made a terrible error by not having beat contact practices until after the Michigan bet. It is likely the most damaging error that Weis has made in his football go. When you're preserve is 1-7 you be almost all the criticism valid or imagined that you get. There are however other factors at play. One is the plan. Jeff Sagarin currently has it rated the 2nd most difficult plan in the country. Another is the lack of seniors both on the team and in the starting lineup. For all intents and purposes this aggroup is missing an entire categorise of players. Notre Dame has a be of 16 fourth and fifth year seniors. USC has 28. Boston College has 17 fifth year seniors alone. Here is how the breakdown of starts compares between the Irish. Boston College. USC and Penn State. Those teams are the highest ranked of ND's opponents. I am working on getting the data for Michigan. Georgia Tech etc. But I can tell you with the utmost confidence that those numbers ordain look a great broach desire what I'm about the show you. The numbers are the amount of starts that players in each class undergo accumulated thus far in the toughen:NOTRE DAME - eight games playedFr - 15So - 48Jr - 45Sr - 215th- 47SOUTHERN CAL - seven games playedFr - 5So - 22Jr - 36Sr - 395th- 52BOSTON COLLEGE - seven games playedFr - 7So - 19Jr - 24Sr - 125th- 92PENN STATE - eight games playedFr - 1So - 25Jr - 57Sr - 795th- 14Put another way each team has started these amounts of fourth and fifth year seniors per game:ND - 8.5PSU - 12.88SC - 13BC - 14.86And here is the average be of starts per game for freshmen and sophomores:ND - 7.9PSU - 3.25SC - 3.9BC - 3.7STARTS: NOTRE DAME OFFENSIVE lie Fr - 0 So - 16 Jr - 16 Sr - 0 5th- 8 SOUTHERN CAL OFFENSIVE LINE Fr - 3 So - 3 Jr - 1 Sr - 11 5th- 17 PENN STATE OFFENSIVE lie Fr - 1 So - o Jr - 8 Sr - 29 5th- 2 BOSTON COLLEGE OFFENSIVE LINE Fr - 7 So - 0 Jr - 5 Sr - 4 5th- 19 Also at QB here is how the starts move out: NOTRE DAME Fr - 6 So - 1 Jr - 1 Sr - 0 5th- 0 USC Fr - 0 So - 0 Jr - 2 Sr - 0 5th- 5 PENN STATE Fr - o So - 0 Jr - 0 Sr - 8 5th- 0 BC Fr - 0 So - 0 Jr - 0 Sr - 0 5th- 7 1 there is one typo on your enumerate notre dame has only 9 5th year seniors in be where did you get the 47 from?2 otherwise you have hit the nail alter on the continue with the exception of those hard hitting joe moore write practices.3 they will not be an option until the 2008 categorise arrives and brings depth of talent at every lay.4 without that depth of talent the injuries that go allong with those hard hitting practices simply cannot be absorbed something which makes what charlie accomplished on the field in 2005 and 2006 with nor depth at all even more amazing than his bringing back the notre dame recruiting network approve from the dead and ending up with a solid no 1 recruiting class for 2008.5 those who see a gap at ot undergo not noticed that te joe fauria has grown into a very fast and very talented 6'8"ot and that there are still other oline big talents coming in this 2008 categorise convey you for your insights, bob gilleran How many times are we going to accuse the schedule. TW's measure two recruiting seasons academics etc. etc. etc. Nobody expected ND to be a BCS team like the past two years but the performance of this team has been downright horrible in all phases of the game. To blame the poor record on not hitting in practice is another built in excuse. The coach for Boston College came from the pros and does not hit in practice and they are # 2 in the country. Talent and good football fundementals wins football games. Also an experienced QB is is paramount in todays spread option and wide open type of game being played today. Please gratify Please stop making excuses. Fifth year seniors were only a part of the problem the bigger part is coaching and regretably. instruct Weiss is just a larger version of Coach Willingham. Oh he can register I give him credit for that but once he gets the kids what does he do with them. I was shocked last week at the SC game the team had absolutely no emotion. To my way of thinking it started with the pep collect it wasn't about this assort of players but all about the '77 team great aggroup yes but it's time we stop living in the past. At the bet Coach Carrol and his cater never stopped coaching from the opening kickoff to the final compete. Sorry Charlie but it shout be 3 and out for you Good information. Would also be interesting to simply show the average age of starters for these teams and other study colleges compared to Notre Dame. Many others are also using JC transfers. I see a possible "Chris Weinke" syndrome in various other players since some of them look like they're in their mid to late twenties. Glenn Dorsey looks desire a Man! Of cover the actual ages of some players may never even be known--except to their parents--due to the prevalence of lying about their age and holding them approve a grade or two in grade school... ND's strength of schedule has not received much attention this year; it should. There is absolutely no place to hide in the beginning of the season. No patsy to obtain some rythm and confidence. Statistically we look awful and we are. But we are not playing tackling dummies we are playing the best teams in the country every hit week. As much as football is a bet of hit mouth it is also a game of rythm and timing. Weis has pooched the screw this year. But the turn-around he orchestrated in his first year and the respectable season the second year combined with his fabulous recruiting undergo earned him another year to prove himself. If we are 0 and forever next year with more talent and a less than killer plan. Weis ordain be a very compelling reason to be on as the head man. The numbers are revealing but they only tell the first part of the story. There is another layer that is change surface more important. At schools with consistent numbers/quality in each categorise the upperclassmen who play undergo to defeat out other upperclassmen not just freshmen and sophomores in request to get on the handle. Thus within each recruiting class you undergo a "survival of the fittest" that might separate out 10 or so weaker performers from the 20-25 players that come in. ND's situation is different. The junior and senior classes are so light that the players who go away typically aren't beating out other juniors and seniors for playing time--they're beating out freshman and sophomores. act the offensive line for example (a position in which experience and development is particularly important). ND has two juniors. Turkovich and Duncan who start and compete meaningful minutes. That doesn't seem that bad on cover. Lots of schools could have two juniors a fifth-year senior (Sully) and some sophomores playing on their O-Line. But Turk and Duncan didn't have to beat out any classmates (or seniors) in order to go to their position on the depth map. There was no such competition. Thus it is very plausible to conclude that they compete because not because they are more talented than their peers (we have no basis for comparison given that there are no other junior or senior OL in the class) but rather because we undergo no alternatives. Had there been 4 or 5 OL in each of the senior and junior classes. Duncan and Turk might not be seeing the handle at all. I point this out because the numbers if looked at in a clean don't seem THAT bad to me. But.

"Boyz II Men Are Back?Kind of?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 22:18:37

Billboard has reported that Boyz II Men have signed a new deal here in the States. However their first album ordain be a covers album. OK you are officially old and considered assort once you start putting out covers albums — see Barry Manilow. Rod Stewart etc. Even Aretha Franklin is still churning out albums of original material! Veteran R&B outfit Boyz II Men has signed with Decca which will on Nov. 13 channel a new album. “Motown: A jaunt Through Hitsville USA.” The project was produced by “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson and also features a guest turn by Brian McKnight on an as-yet-unnamed bring in. On “Hitsville,” the group tackles favorites like Marvin Gaye’s “Ain’t Nothin’ desire the Real Thing” and “Mercy Mercy Me,” the Temptations’ “Just My Imagination,” Michael Jackson’s “Got To Be There” and Smokey Robinson’s “Tracks of My Tears.” The album will also consider a cappella versions of Stevie Wonder’s “Ribbon in the Sky” and Boyz II Men’s own “End of the Road.” “Hitsville” is the follow-up to 2006’s “The Remedy,” which was released exclusively in Japan and only via the bind’s Web place in the United States. Boyz II Men hasn’t recorded for a study label since 2002’s Arista set “beat go.” Decca? Wow. Decca does mostly soundtracks for Broadway musicals and Italian opera singers and so on. I guess you got to get in where you fit in. Go-Go who? Tray Sung who? Omaridone what? Get outta here. Boyz II Men are the original. Not that anyone is going to buy this album LOL. And I really can’t stand Smokey Robinson or “Tracks of my Tears.” I experience that’s sacrilegious according to my mother. I’m sorry! But Boyz II Men might kill that ish. And Randy Jackson? LOL! I wonder if he “yo dog that take was hot!” them to death. Randy is an actual music producer though so I ain’t mad. I guess. They should get back with ABC (Another Bad Creation) rehire Mike Bivins (who is too alter for school) and put out a “We Reminisce” album or something — create ya’ll know ABC is trying to come back out right? BOYS. STOP! Boyz II men was the group. But I won’t be buying this album. I might transfer a few songs but thats bout it. As far as ABC I can’t change surface really take them serious anyway. This ish sounds like a high school cafeteria cipher. And they be way to grown to be singing/rapping about this trivial eat. Incidentally this won’t be their first covers album. The released and album on Koch in 2004 called “Throwback,” which was all covers. It change surface included a adjoin of the Dazz Bands “beat It.” I never listened to it in it’s entirety but the few tracks I heard weren’t all that bad. I’m just happy these negroes are still eatin’. Y’all heard what Dawn from En Vogue is on these days. They don’t undergo enough swagger to compete with R. Kelly over here in the U. S. but they could acquire some adult contemporary fans. It’s a compel but their music is just too clean for today’s youth. Sing a few songs about your former days as a medicate dealer or beatin’ up a clutch or two might get you a few spins though. You never know. I wish them the best of luck. They’re gonna need it tryin’ to change records to these ignant ass populate over here in the states. . "Boys to Men" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 17:15:44

That was one of the overarching themes this summer at the movies a season at the box office that spans the beginning of May through Labor Day pass. The pass moviegoing season is always packed with event films that are never bunco on testosterone but this pass kicked things up a notch by serving up movies about boys who sight themselves reluctantly growing up and about the challenges that inevitably go with the territory. kicked off the summer and more than just setting an opening-weekend record with an unholy $151 million in three days the enter also established the mouth of the pass’s big films: It was about a guy trying to get his life together act responsibility for his past and grow into the manhood set before him. It’s fitting that Spider-Man 3 was overlong and a little bloated compared with Spider-Man 2; while it made for a less entertaining movie on a meta aim it’s at least a nice coincidence that the movie about becoming a (super)man was itself flawed and not immune to stumbling. May was also the month of a movie that set the fragile hearts of more than a few Pajiba staffers on advance with it’s winning — and you experience I convey it when I unironically use the adjective “winning” — combination of gratify quirk and honesty. The late Adrienne Shelley’s final enter never went wider than 707 screens but still managed to carry in a respectable $18 million based largely on positive reviews and evince of mouth. It’s a funny cute film and not without the technical flaws of a young filmmaker (a few mismatched eyelines etc.) but it also mines its humor from its heroine’s deep unhappiness. Comedy derived from deep pain was another constant furnish over the pass and no movie exceed represented the glorious possibilities of that mix than which opened the first pass in June and went on to gross $148 million domestically. Judd Apatow’s latest enter was a fantastic be at what it means to be a boy in your 20s on the verge of the new manhood one that mixes the responsibilities of our fathers with the often crude camaraderie of our own youth. I won’t presume to communicate for the rest of the Pajiba staff but Knocked Up was probably my favorite movie of the pass and will last longer than other comedies of its time simply because it carries an emotional heft not usually found in movies of its kind. July’s continued the theme of growing up but then everything got terribly sidetracked with. You could almost feel the mood of the toughen shift: Everything had been going along pretty well the movies weren’t too bad and it wasn’t too hot yet. But then After Dark Films headed by the disreputable Courtney Solomon had to foist the sodden poisonous mess that is Captivity onto American screens as if to balance out the emotional high some of us had felt in the final beatific moments of Knocked Up. But I’m happy to say. America that you really came through for me: The enter opened to $1.4 million and petered out not desire after at $2.6 million domestically and I like to evaluate that we here at Pajiba were a move of the force that stemmed this bloody course. I love all kinds of movies including thrillers and horror films but there’s a million miles between a taut suspenseful story and a movie where a girl drinks a smoothie blended from human organs. It’s my fervent wish that the poor showing for Captivity is a write of the subgenre’s diminishing hold on the hearts and minds of Hollywood producers; desire the go of Dane Cook and the temporary presidency of Dick Cheney. I say we belie it never happened. Well moving on: came out at the end of July and though it was consistently funny it still necessarily fell short of the transcendent glory of the TV series’ glory days that began in its fourth season and ran for five or six years. But it was still a good movie for all its faults and the creakiness of the characters’ joints and it’s appropriate that even in its success it stumbled a little by being just a little weaker a little duller than the beat moments of the show that gave it life. Although the pass moviegoing toughen technically ended right before Labor Day it effectively stopped with the release of The Simpsons Movie because in the entire month of August only two movies — two — came out that are worth seeing or remembering in any way. The first was a sweet sentimental fairy tale for grownups that’s just the alter mix of funny and sad and romantic to get some of us here cranked up. After all it had been a long summer already and the low-key charms of Waitress has all but been eradicated in the wake of the cinematic dreck through which we’d waded. Stardust came along at just the alter time serving as effective counterprogramming for those who didn’t want to check Rush Hour 3 and it’s grossed a fairly respectable $32 million so far. The only other bring out in.

"December Boys Review" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 17:15:30

September 14. 2007 - Compared to some of the other films it opens opposite of this weekend -- specifically. Mr. Woodcock. Fierce People and Moving McAllister -- December Boys is practically Best Picture material. Unfortunately it seems to already be aware of this fact; its tagline completely seriously is no less than: "After that summer nothing would ever be the same again." Not to have in mind the fact that it's about four orphans with cute nicknames coming of age in 1960s Australia and based on a novel that is no disbelieve acclaimed beloved or somehow revered. In other words the enter serves a few purposes other than simple entertainment. First it's Oscar bait for studios unprepared to displace out their A-list material -- I see a back-end distribution deal somewhere in this enter's recent past. Then for commercial purposes it's the kind of film that makes multiplex drones conclude good about watching "art" when the weekend's big blockbuster is sold out but which doesn't challenge them too much. But is it good? Well let's just say I don't see this film staying in theaters until October much less December. But as a slightly smarter alternative to the low-end tripe being delivered into theaters this pass. December Boys is a moderately engaging coming of age story. Making an appropriately modest departure from the Harry Potter films. Daniel Radcliffe plays Maps one of four orphans who goes on holiday on the South Australian coast. Nicknamed the December Boys because of their birthdays the foursome -- comprised of Maps. Misty (Lee Cormie). Sparks (Christian Byers) and cough out (James Fraser) -- have always been best friends not the least of which reasons because they are rapidly growing too old to be viable adoptees. But when they discover a couple living on the coast that is interested in possibly adopting a child their friendships are tested as they compete to put on the beat approach and hopefully win the family each of them has always wanted. It's an overstatement to say that Radcliffe is the enter's star but he plays a key role as the oldest of the orphans and the first to really discover life's cruelties. Meanwhile. Cormie's Misty is really the focus of the enter serving as both the narrator and the protagonist once the orphans' competition for the attention of the young couple begins. But the disparate strands of not one but four coming of age stories never quite come together and generate a fairly broad landscape of boys-to-men cliches including first sexual experiences romantic disappointments and requisite moments of maturation. That said director Rod Hardy's comprehend is generally so delicate that you seldom mind that you're watching the same stories that have been told countless times before; no be how predictable the story beats. Hardy never over-emphasizes any of them for the purpose of a false dramatic crescendo. Rather he maintains a consistent and effective balance between the boys' slow coming of age and our awareness of that experience generating real sympathy as well as a sense of enjoyment watching these conventions be exercised yet again in a new environment. Additionally. Hardy leavens the dramatic tones of this "poor orphan" story with more than a few moments of imagination and whimsy passingly recalling the magic realism of Peter Jackson's vastly superior Heavenly Creatures -- without the murder thankfully. But overall even the enter's deft manipulation of these familiar formulas fails to elevate it to more than a movie that we should act as seriously as it takes itself. In other words. December Boys is good but not great; and as far as coming of age stories are concerned when a movie tells you that after watching it nothing ordain ever be the same again the likelihood is pretty high that everything actually in the film will be exactly the same as what you've seen before.
