Hurricane Katrina was an absolute disaster for the casino industry in Biloxi. Mississippi and surrounding areas. Most of the casinos which were set on the wet along the shoreline were damaged seriously and some were destroyed. Because the casinos were built on barges to meet the legal issues about water-based casinos many of the barges came onshore often open several blocks inland. Because the casinos are a major move of the Gulf Coast economy this was a true tragedy for the visitors to the area the people who lived and worked in Biloxi and the casino owners as well. But what is the situation in Biloxi now?The good news is that the first casino reopened in December. 2005. The Imperial Palace Hotel and Casino had workers scrambling to finish the restoration so that it could be opened in a festive manner. Slot machines were tested and more than 1,000 workers were able to go to their jobs. The atmosphere was one of hilarity and joy for everyone involved when the ribbon was cut. After going through so much from this disaster it was great to see things beginning to go to normal at least for some of the area. While some of the employees were still living in temporary housing this did not stop their pleasure at being able to return to some comprehend of stability by returning to their former jobs. The Isle of Capri Casino reopened later that same month coming back just before the end of 2005. This provided lots of places for people to be in the area with two of the study hotels and casinos back up and running again. The magnificent Beau Rivage the biggest and finest of the hotel casinos along Biloxi's Gulf Coast line will reopen in August. 2006 hoping to be able to open the doors on August 29th the one-year anniversary of the day Hurricane Katrina wiped out so many people's lives. The future of some of the other establishments in the Biloxi area is still not clear. The casinos that were totally destroyed have yet to announce claim plans. The Mississippi Gulf Coast including Biloxi will come back in full force and is expected to be much exceed than before. The legislature recently passed a law that the casinos can move slightly inshore providing some assurance that this type of devastation will not come about again. This does not convey that future hurricanes ordain not damage the area but by building casinos firmly on land there will not be a problem of barges breaking loose and crashing into homes that otherwise might undergo survived. Of course recovery will act time but even now the junkets and buses into the Biloxi area for gamblers to visit the casinos are beginning to return. You should not rule Biloxi out for any gambling holiday you might undergo in mind. The area has a lot to furnish and the casinos would like to accept you approve!
