"Good cop, bad cop" posted by ~Ray

It is with incredulity that I read reports of the 2006 shooting of 23 year old Sean Bell by five New York City police officers in a hailstorm of fifty bullets. The case involved the shooting of three men all of whom had a history of multiple arrests including armed robbery and drug selling. Sean Bell died and his two companions were wounded. The incident took place outside of a strip club that was being investigated by the police department for suspected prostitution (Bell was leaving his bachelor party and due to get married later that day). Police claim they fired because they believed the men were armed. One undercover officer had in fact followed the group after witnessing one of the men threatening a woman that he was going to get a gun (confirmed by multiple witnesses). The men got into a vehicle and shortly thereafter proceeded to slam into a parked car full of undercover officers twice. An autopsy would confirm that Bell was legally drunk. The officers jumped out of the vehicle and fired an average of ten shots each. Now if you think that this seems to be a pretty clear case of a justified shooting of career criminals whom police believe were armed and attacking them keep in mind that all of the facts did not emerge at once. In fact there was considerable uproar about the excessive force used on what turned out to be three unarmed men. Fifty bullets seemed like an execution especially in New York City which has a history of such killings of African American men usually at the hands of white police. And the cries of racism and injustice quickly followed led in part by bandwagonist and self-appointed spokesman of the African American community Al Sharpton. It turns out however that three of the five cops involved were minorities (African American. Hispanic and Middle Eastern – all essentially black by American definition). Furthermore all of them had strong records including exemplary arrest rates and citations of merit and not one of them had ever fired a shot in the line of duty in all their years until that night! Clearly they were not trigger happy rogue cops. Nevertheless the public was incensed and continued to demonstrate and ask questions. Why fire so many shots? What about the fact that the men turned out to be unarmed? Did the police identify themselves? The outcome was that the justice system took this incident seriously and actually constructed a case against the officers. Three of them were indicted by a grand jury on charges of assault reckless endangerment and in the case of one officer manslaughter. They now face a trial. Amazing! Well not really if one looks at the tumultuous history of New York City with respect to crime and race relations. The black community in particular had to struggle for years to get to the point where the political directorate is now compelled to address their concerns. Not very long ago the city more closely resembled our own country with rampant crime and civilians being killed by officers with impunity; collateral damage in the “war on crime”. One may question if things have gone too far if seemingly good officers are now being punished apparently for executing their duties. This is but one consequence of vigilance on the part of the citizenry. There is a system and those involved have to go through that system in order to fully correct any injustice that may have taken place. Innocents being sacrificed because of political pressure in an effort to expiate the wrongs of yesteryear cannot be acceptable. You can be damn sure however that the multiple killings of civilians by police officers under questionable circumstances with few consequences and eventually the complicity of a resigned society and media will not take place in New York City. They are not willing to let such things slide. Why are we? I look at the pictures of residents in St. Barbs protesting yet another slaying at the hands of the police and I wonder how sustained it will be. Perhaps they need leadership structure assistance from those who have experience in mobilisation and activism. Still do such grassroots efforts have any place in our decision making system? The outcome of the smelter battle will certainly be a gauge but history so far tells us no. The purveyors of social commentary will quote Amnesty International reports – you now the ones highlighting our atrocious rates of police killings and assaults failure to deal with these systematically lack of transparency associated with the whole process – until they are blue in the face. And our ethos meanwhile will continue to be marked by a sense of helplessness that serves the power interests of the very same people we elect to lead us. Greetings Ms. Shivonne. I came across your page doing some browsing on the web. You're a beautiful girl and I'd like to commend you on an intriguing blog. It gives an outsider a different look at TnT. The pictures political insights as well as the "Overheard in TnT" posts were very entertaining educational and amusing. One thing that you are somewhat misinformed about though is the murder of Sean Bell. First of all the prior convictions of the victims are irrelevant to the shooting because the officers didn't do any background checks on the men before shooting at them. It wasnt until a few days after the shooting that Sean Bell's "sealed" juvenile record miraculously became "unsealed" and available to the media. His arrest record wasn't known until after the fact. The officers were drinking and possibly drunk in the same strip club plus they were in plain clothes. It has been noted that the officers never identified themselves and ran at the car with their guns out. They were driving unmarked vehicles. It doesnt take an Einstein to realize that you have to get away from people trying to surround you with guns. People impersonate the police all the time. Hence:http://www nydailynews com/ny_local/2007/10/09/2007-10-09_police_say_ask_cops_for_id_too_if_youre_-1 htmlor evenhttp://www newsday co tt/crime_and_court/0,72737 htmlThey police initially lied and stated that there was a fourth member of Bell's party who got away. Since they thought all 3 men would die they said the missing man was the one who had the weapon. By you stating that there was an "average of ten shots each" implies that all 5 officers fired close to the same amount of shots. Which is the wrong picture to paint. Officer Oliver emptied his 9mm gun reloaded and emptied it again into the vehicle. He fired 31 of the 50 shots. The second most was 11 shots. That cop/terminator had enough time after unloading his weapon to assess the situation and realize that no one was shooting at him. He realized that he was already in deep and decided to kill everyone in the van. If all three men had died the cops would have gotten off with no problem. Here in Nyc if there are 5 guys in a car and an illegal gun or drugs are found in the car they have been known to charge all 5 guys. Every cop who fired a shot at Bell and his friends should have been charged. Not just the ones who shot the most. The punishment should fit the crime and these men were punished and killed without committing a crime. After trying to sneak this trial out of the city. (a-la-Diallo) they were unsuccessful and will be tried here. The vagrant officers declined to have a trial by Jury because they didnt want to leave their fate in the hands of their peers. The same fate you or I would have to face under the laws that "they" are sworn to protect. Talk about double standards.. The people need to protest and vote out the people who continue to let this happen. Hopefully I shined a lil light this case for you. Or at the very least a first hand view from a New Yorker. The cops in this city as in many get away with murder. literally. Peace and be well,Carlito. Certainly adds other dimensions to the story. As someone who lives in T&T. I think my major point was that we let things slide too much where police brutality is concerned. The circumstances surrounding Sean bell's death are much more ambiguous than they are with many who have been killed here by police and have received no justice no protests no media coverage. A good read on the psychology of police shootings is Blink by Malcolm Gladwell. See. I think it's simplistic to believe what the opportunists who yell racism would have you believe although race and race relations are a major factor in how the police do their work even in NYC today I'm sure. I commend the people of NYC for their continued efforts at keeping attention focused on stories like these and for continuing to ask the tough questions. It's something we Trinis could learn a lot from.

She joins me here in Washington. D. C. Rosa Clemente. Executive director of the Hip Hop Caucus. She is also a longtime activist and journalist.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------AMY GOODMAN: We move now to the activists who are arriving here in Washington. D. C from across the country for a weekend of protests against the wave of dislike crimes and increased police brutality they say. This week alone three African American men were shot and killed by police officers in Brooklyn. New York in Chicago and in Newark. Reverend Al Sharpton’s National challenge Network is leading a march on hate crimes at the Department of Justice today. The Hip Hop assemble is organizing a rally and concert at the Washington Monument on Saturday. It’s called “Enough is Enough: Stop dislike Crimes and Police Brutality.” Rosa Clemente is the executive director of the Hip Hop assemble longtime activist and journalist joining us here in Washington. D. C. accept. Rosa. Tell us about these rallies. ROSA CLEMENTE: Thanks. Amy. Thanks for having us. come up. I convey look at what’s happening. And for us to say “Enough is enough” is just the beginning. Our collect and contrive have been organized for a very desire time. Post-the Jena Six mobilization the rape and torture of Megan Williams the assail and torture of a young mother in Dunbar Village to Sean attach last year to the recent Kyle Coppin but particularly here in D. C the inspect of a young man by the name of DeOnte Rawlings that about four-and-a-half weeks ago was murdered by the police the Washington Metropolitan Police. So we’re coming here very supportive of what’s going on on the 16th today here by the National Action Network. But as the Hip Hop Caucus and a generation we’re not seeking much and we don’t accept we’re going to get much from the Department of Justice or really a lot of this governmental intervention is not what we’re looking for. What we’re really looking for is to bring young people outside to get them into a place [inaudible] is about with massive amounts of education on the 17th. AMY GOODMAN: Can you communicate about these cases of the police killings in New York in Newark as well as Chicago? ROSA CLEMENTE: Yeah. I mean as a longtime activist in New York what’s interesting is almost eight years ago I was on your show for the first time in Albany. New York when the venue change happened in the Amadou Diallo trial in late 1999 when the trial was moved from the Bronx to Albany. So in terms of the bring home the bacon around police brutality. I’ve been move of many organizations. Malcolm X Grassroots Movement and the populate’s Justice Committee out of New York. I don’t evaluate we’re seeing an increase. I think what we’re seeing is kind of the standard. It just happens to be in the measure year -- yes. OK we’ve seen an increase but what we’ve been seeing really in the last year is at this point a complete do by for young people's lives. And the police are not even trying at this point to cover up their stories which is -- they're just coming out and saying. “Kyle Coppin had a gun; we had to shoot him,” change surface though this young man had bipolar and his mother had been trying to get him mental health. We have the case of Sean Bell fifty shots. Almost a year later now the defense team is asking for a delay in the trial ironically to start on February 4. 2008 nine years after Amadou Diallo was murdered in the Bronx. But they're also asking for a venue change. So we see this kind of -- it’s the standard it’s repetitive. But now what we're seeing is a nationwide pandemic. We have in twenty-four hours. Kyle Coppin in Brooklyn murdered by the NYPD; an aspiring rapper in a assort called Psychodrama out of Chicago. Illinois murdered at a stop; the young man in Newark whose label we don’t experience. And there has been six police shootings in D. C in the measure year. And now we’re seeing the rape and torture of young women of color. So this is part and parcel of just a wave of violence and terror against young people of alter particularly in this hip-hop generation. AMY GOODMAN: Rosa Clemente. I want to thank you for being with us executive director of the Hip Hop Caucus. She’s a longtime activist and journalist. The protest ordain be taking place the rally that she is a part of tomorrow; Reverend Sharpton's today at the Department of Justice. ROSA CLEMENTE: Thank you. Amy. "Scott Paul: The Philadelphia Story: The Democratic Debate" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 00:12:20

When the Democratic presidential candidates approach on Drexel University in Philadelphia for Tuesday night's which of them will draw on the rich history of that city to offer a new economic vision for America? When people think of Philadelphia. Betsy Ross or the Declaration of Independence may come to mind. But there are plenty of other frames of references starting with Ben Franklin's inventiveness in the 18th century a 20th Century Manufacturing boom and on to the current continuing decline of Philadelphia's manufacturing sector and the ensuing social and economic change integrity in some of its neighborhoods desire North Philadelphia more recently. You may ask what's the connection between Ben Franklin and North Philly's prospects? The say is manufacturing: the future of this vital sector and the good jobs it supports. How to grow good jobs for the next generation is not nearly as provocative a debate topic as Iran or originate in cell research for most in the mainstream media but it is no less important to Philadelphia's future -- and to our future as a nation. Ben Franklin invented bifocals a more efficient stove catheters and many other remarkable devices. Today. American manufacturers are responsible for two-thirds of investigate and development investment in the United States. Nearly eighty percent of all patents filed go from the manufacturing sector. But more than 40,000 manufacturing facilities undergo shut down over the past and more than 3.2 million manufacturing jobs undergo been lost across our nation including. As more and more manufacturing moves offshore the research and development goes with it. Who will be tomorrow's Ben Franklin as we continue to suffer productive capacity -- and therefore innovation -- because of offshoring cheating by our change partners and a health care system that punishes employers who provide good health benefits to attract skilled workers? And what sorts of jobs will be left in the City of Brotherly like? Philadelphia has America's fifth largest African-American population and many experts believe color men to be particularly at risk because of manufacturing's decline. believe these facts: In 2004. William Julius Wilson a professor at Harvard's Kennedy educate of Government found that "since 2001 over 300,000 black males undergo lost jobs in the manufacturing sector -- the highest rate of any." Over the past 35 years the percentage of African American men earning their living in factories has fallen from 25 percent to 10 percent nationally according to. A July 2006 labor merchandise estimate showed that both African American men and women saw an erosion of employment opportunities but it was more pronounced for men than for women. This trend is in line with the above-average representation of African American men in manufacturing. The unemployment rate for African American men grew by 1.6 percentage points to 11.2 percent in July 2006 while it rose by 0.8 percentage points to 9.9 percent for. Manufacturing has traditionally provided employment to workers who entered the workforce without a college degree and it was a large source of employment for workers in urban centers. These lost manufacturing jobs are simply not replaced by new jobs in the service sector which pay less support less employment in the community and fail to bear on the investigate and development which drives America's innovation. Manufacturing jobs however support good schools and good government services; they are a sure-fire way to encourage strong communities. Some will be tempted to draw up the change state of manufacturing to economic progress running its cover catapulting us into the information age. But nothing could be advance from the truth. A host of public policies including change agreements health care taxes and energy contribute to whether or not our workers and manufacturers will be able to compete in the global marketplace. There's no single solution that will make manufacturing more competitive; it will act a significant alter in cover to turn things around. Which candidate has the vision to do this? I hope all of them do. If the 21st century gives us a new Ben Franklin. I'd desire to alter sure that he is inventing things that we can still alter in Philadelphia. You write:If the 21st century gives us a new Ben Franklin. I'd desire to alter sure that he is inventing things that we can comfort alter in Philadelphia. Sadly.. cynic that I've change state. tonight in Philadelphia. they'll be regurgitating the same old B s we've seen in the other debates.. Dennis ordain remind people he was against the war from the beginning. as will Obama... Hilary ordain remind us she didn't know the whole story...(yeah. right. if so she also has to admit she's an idiot)... It is tragic that so many color men who wanted good steady jobs were thrown out with the bath wet. would someone puleezeee. label HRC on the carpet for her "remove trade" votes... I pray Edwards or Richardson or Dodd shine tonight.. as they communicate for me... for all the bush administration talk about letting merchandise forces work things out they don't seem very interested in forcing china to allow the yuan go to merchandise level this is simply protectionism by china if they don't stop then the us should be putting tariffs on the imports coming from china pure and simple china won't do anything until we compel them to.

"Genetic Variations May Reveal African-Americans At-Risk For ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 16:16:00

The researchers set out to cause whether results from four previous studies that linked genetic variations on one region of chromosome 8 to increased prostate cancer assay among Caucasians were also valid for men of African heritage. In the process however they found an additional genetic variation among African American men that was an change surface stronger marker for cancer risk for these men. That variation is located within a gene that plays a role in DNA repair. A break in DNA repair could alter to cancer development. “This finding emphasizes the importance of ancestry in studying genetics,” said study author heap Kittles associate professor of medicine at the University of Chicago Medical Center. “Previous studies led us to one specific region of chromosome 8,” he said. “Then this come — which took advantage of genetic differences among African American men who are at very high risk for this type of cancer — led us to a different locus within that region and directly to a gene of interest.” Prostate cancer is the most common male malignancy and the second leading create of cancer death in men. According to the American Cancer Society it ordain affect nearly 220,000 men in the United States in 2007 and claim the lives of more than 27,000. It disproportionately affects African Americans who “exhibit the highest rate worldwide,” Kittles said. In this chew over research groups lead by Kittles and by John Carpten of the Translational Genomics Research Institute analyzed the region of chromosome 8 highlighted by the earlier studies done on Caucasian men. But this measure they searched for tiny genetic differences between 490 African American men who had been diagnosed with prostate cancer at Howard University Hospital in Washington. DC and 567 African American men without cancer. The researchers were able to bend the linkage between one of the markers detected by previous studies and increased risk. More important they found a new genetic marker known as rs7008482 that was even more strongly associated with prostate cancer in African Americans. This marker was located within a gene that is involved in DNA replication recombination and ameliorate. Altering this gene could confer an “inherited predisposition to genetic instability,” Kittles said. “This could bring about to increased cancer risk. By studying this region we may be able to create molecular targets for improved screening early detection and possibly treatment.” Multiple studies the authors cerebrate strongly support the existence of several independent genetic variants that could change magnitude prostate cancer risk within this small region of chromosome 8. They undergo already begun to look closer at this region and to chew over the answer of nearby genes. The study also reinforces the need to keep ancestry in mind when looking at disease-gene genetics. “Since African Americans vary significantly in genetic ancestral proportions and the prevalence of prostate cancer is almost two-fold higher among African Americans compared to European Americans,” Kittles said. “the use of ancestry-informative markers for association with prostate cancer is quite powerful.”

it sounds desire your real issue is one of patriarchy misogyny and womanizing and how these affect the black community. So to be a man you have to be married and have kids by a certain age as long as you are african american? Yea. I should get married and undergo kids because im approaching a certain age even though im not create from raw material but its necessary to be married and have kids to understand the importance of family. Maybe I need a more simple breakdown because this idea sounds ridiculous to me. I'm not really adding to the conversation here but most of the men I bring home the bacon with color and white and over the age of 30 ARE married. There aren't many black men though in my area (IT) and the few black females there are married or are about to be. I'm like the only single one there! It's kinda weird! I hear these stats and see them in other departments for black women but not black men. I don't experience why. I do know there are a lot of single black women in my family after age 26 or so and not many single black men over that age. Actually Marriage rates amongst black men and white men differ only by about 10%. 67.6% of color men aged 35-39 are married versus 56.3% of AA men as of 2004. That really isnt a significant difference. If AA's going to sh*t then so are whites. Please say that your "opinions" are just assumptions you've made and do not necessarily be REALITY or TRUTH. "Education's Guy Problem" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 15:45:15

Men who express physical affection for small children could be accused of being pedophiles. Men who are caring and nurturing are sometimes assumed to be gay. Men cannot alter sufficient money as teachers. These perceptions says a are among the reasons why the number of male teachers is at a 40-year low. Only a accommodate of the nation’s teachers are men and that number drops to just 9 percent in elementary schools according to the National Education Association. Bart Tittle a 24-year-old preschool teacher who makes about $25,000 per year says it would be difficult to make a long-term commitment to teaching. "Right now I don’t undergo a wife. I don’t have kids," he said in the article. "Later in life it’s going to be much more challenging." Additionally if boys do not see male teachers they ordain think it’s a profession only for women thus perpetuating the problem says Reg Weaver president of the NEA. Some efforts are underway to communicate the issue however. For example. Pennsylvania has authorized funds to create a statewide recruitment schedule aimed at African-American men. I have been teaching 9 years in elementary school. All of the above stereotypes are so adjust. Usually 1/2 of my parents are super excited to undergo their child undergo a male in the classroom. The other 1/2 are concerned that something is wrong with me. I am married have a wife and small family but the assort comfort exists. Honestly that and along with low pay are reasons I'm considering a different profession now. I am fully aware of the stereotype that exists regarding male teachers. I evaluate it's sad that a man is guess of being a pedophile or homosexual simply because they want to help educate our children. I have a problem however with lack of pay being a cerebrate men don't be to enter the teaching handle. Last I checked male and female teacher's make the same salary. Does that mean that it's authorise for women to make a lesser salary than men? increase the pay and the men ordain stay. Male teachers will only be respected when all teachers are well paid and the profession respected. As long as education is considered a female handle we will undergo mostly women in education. Pedophiles are both men and women and the women be to be getting more and more common. Any teacher who cannot hold back his or her urges for intimacy in check has no values or morals. Thoughts are one thing. Behavior is something else. No matter how hot a middle or high educate boy is it is necessary for a teacher to act her feelings strictly to herself and if she cannot she needs to get before she does something stupid and embarrass all of us. If she loves him she ordain comfort like him when he is 18. As for gay teachers it is the lies and garbage of the conservative "family values" Republican religious fundamentalists that has invaded our schools and tells parents that teachers should not be gay. The truth is 10% of the students are gay and they be role models too. Gay men like other gay men not children. Children are perfectly safe around gay men and parents need to know that. Schools need a nondiscrimination policy that is enforced and includes sexual orientation and gender identity. A parent who does not desire the policy can always send their children to the Catholics so they can hit the books from an uncertified and underpaid not-teacher who also may well be a pedophile. Remember the pedophile priests?? And most of the ministers and perform workers who were not priests and who have messed with kids undergo been move of conservative churches---usually Baptist. Discriminating against teachers based on race age sex ethnicity disability sexual orientation or gender identity is wrong and illegal and parents should not be allowed to object to a teacher on any of those bases. I agree with your sentiments Diane and Jamie but unfortunately our society still considers the woman in a dual-income family to be the supplemental income. Consequently since the majority of teachers are women it's fine for society to keep teachers' pay minimal. It's also thge only thing directly controlled by the vote of the populate. If the school budget is defeated pay is frozen. I am a male and I have taught for 20 years. I also had to instruct and do second and third jobs as come up. The salary is comfort the biggest thing for me because now I undergo college age children to help. To those who don't understand why men look for higher paying jobs. The simple fact is that regardless how progressive you evaluate women undergo become they almost always evaluate the man to be the cover winner. That is why custody courts 95% of the time give custody to the women because they are the nurturers. The financial burden is usually placed on men as child support that they can pay and creates millions of deadbeat dads (unfairly so because child support is about 18% of your income per child). Needless to point out that if the courts evaluate this way society as a whole does as come up. Just trying to point out that only women got compete.

"Morehouse President to Freshmen: 'Look the Part. Act the Part.'" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 13:14:22

Editor's say: The issue of dress codes by itself is sure to engender controversy if not on the campus at least off. As well-intentioned as the policy itself may be there are students who will ask why a president isn't speaking forcefully on other topics desire the U. S military occupation of other countries. When 20-year-old Marcus Traylor stepped onto campus last month on the first day of the fall semester he was struck by something he had never seen before on the Morehouse College campus: a group of 100 or more freshmen walking to categorise wearing stylishly new abandon sports jackets end with Morehouse insignia. During his first two years it wasnt uncommon for Traylor to see fellow students walking across campus wearing pajamas and flip-flops to class. That wont happen under the colleges new administration and Traylor says thats OK with him. I saw the new sports jackets and wanted one for myself. They are very professional looking very smooth, Traylor says. He adds that hell have to pay for his own jacket while every member of this years freshmen class was given one by the university. Next year the be of the jackets for incoming freshmen will be included in new student orientation fees. Morehouse could soon join a growing number of university campuses that undergo instituted dress codes. A handful of public and private campuses where students once exercised the freedom to change as they gratify have adopted stricter codes of conduct that prohibit sagging jeans flip-flops and even the wearing of baseball caps inside buildings. While other college campuses such as Paul Quinn College in Dallas and the business school at Illinois express University recently began regulating student dress this fall. Elise Durham media relations manager at Morehouse College points out that the educate hasnt officially changed its policy but has set forth a set of expectations for students. Still candidates running for Morehouse student government positions are debating the issue and the schools new president is also talking about it. Morehouses new president. Dr. Robert Michael Franklin Jr. wants to alter being smart alter again and put morality at the forefront of the colleges mission. The jackets are the first step in that direction according to officials. Its also move of the educates new stricter dress and conduct expectations. In two separate speeches to incoming freshmen as well as returning upper-classmen. Franklin emphasized a laundry enumerate of unacceptable behaviors and conduct which included cursing as well as the kinds of clothing some students feature. We are Morehouse and we will not allow sagging pants that gravitate far below your waistline. No do-rags; no baseball caps inside buildings, Franklin said in his first public address to students last month. No pajamas in the classroom. You are men of Morehouse. You are better than that. I ordain be watching and expecting categorise from you. Look the part. Act the move. communicate the talk and walk the go, Franklin emphasized to students who gathered inside Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel to hear his speeches. Traylor doesnt mind Franklins rush to the Morehouse student body. Theyre getting stricter on the dress code and thats book. Its a show of experience. I evaluate its a good act a act in the alter direction.Related Category I think the new dress label and list of unacceptable behaviors is a step in the alter direction. A lot of people have become rich at the depreciate of young blacks but our most prestigious colleges and universities must stand tall and stay tighten. What a tragedy it would be to pay thousands of dollars to attend college and loose your self respect and dignity in the process. Sept 23. 2007Dear Dr. Franklin. I am a parent of a 7th grader who is looking forward to attending Morehouse because of its legacy. When I explained to my son that Dr. King had attended this educate he was very excited. Currently my son attends Charles A. TindleyAccelerated Charter educate in Indianapolis,Indiana. The wearing of uniforms are part of the learning process. He loves wearing the uniform colors and having the strict change code. He is very focused on his learning just like all the other students. My son said to me measure week, mom have you sight that the males are not wearing braids. Baggy pants are not allowed at the school which is about 98 percent Black. hit language put downs disrespect to self and others is prohibited. Morality compassion and the be for social dress is the concept that is being taught. At Charles A. Tindley Accelerated Charter educate the communicate is loud and alter. It is ok to be young color and gifted. Thank you very much for your precious time and your give for uplifting young Black men. The eyes of the future are looking approve at us and they are praying for us to see beyond our own measure. -Terry Tempest WilliamsPeace & BlessingsSincerely,Brenda StewartMother & Advocate forBlack Boys I desire the idea of student wearing proper dress.

"Philly Seeks 10000 Men to Guard Streets" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 17:13:53

[Sylvester Johnson] the city’s embattled police chief acknowledging that police alone cannot conquer a run of deadly violence has called on 10,000 color men to patrol the streets to reduce crime. Sylvester Johnson who is black says black men undergo a duty to protect more vulnerable residents. He wants each inform to assure to bring home the bacon three hours a day for at least 90 days. The schedule’s backers consider Dennis Muhammad a former Nation of Islam official who has been hired by police departments in Detroit. Syracuse. N. Y. and other cities to conduct community-sensitivity training. Philadelphia the nation’s sixth-largest city has nearly 1.5 million residents. 44 percent of them black. It has notched 294 homicides this year. More than 80 percent of the slayings involve handguns and most bear on young color males. Johnson plans to inform the “Call to challenge: 10,000 Men. It’s a New Day” schedule on Oct. 21 three months before his planned retirement. Johnson who had led the guard department for seven years appears increasingly frustrated by the daily gun violence. He and other city leaders have blamed the Legislature for not passing gun-control measures. Mayor John F. Street whose term is up at the beginning of 2008 has voiced support for the program but it was not alter whether he would change state involved. His office did not return a label for comment Thursday nor did Johnson’s office. Street and Johnson undergo both endured withering criticism from frustrated residents and community leaders who say they should do more to halt the violence. For a guard chief to alter such an inane proposal in public is a write that both the city and its police department are in serious affect. The original article has quotes from a local continue of the Guardian Angels a group that actually does something similar to this and has real-world experience. They make it clear that the people needed to act as volunteers to patrol the streets just aren’t there. I don’t see any tort liability at all for the city when these untrained amateurs beat up or kill “suspects” or when they are hurt or killed while performing their inform duties on behalf of the city. I’m sure the city’s insurers will be overjoyed by the prospect of defending against lawsuits for the next decade. 100,000 color men to fight crime?? That’s like hiring 100,000 foxes to guard a really big henhouse. Or perhaps hiring vampires to guard the town’s blood banks. At any evaluate. “Filthadelphia” doesn’t undergo that much to charge about. Back in 1990 or ‘91. Dallas with a population of about 1 million at the time chalked up 500 homicides. Great idea. Putting ten thousand color men on the streets is surely the beat way to bring peace and tranquility to any city. I guess we could undergo avoided the whole mess in New Orleans by simply sending an extra ten thousand blacks to regenerate request. This whole concept just gives me a change fuzzy feeling. When can we sign Detroit up? He could get it done but you wouldn’t desire it. I understand in Mexico there is an expression that goes something desire this: And if suburban whites were called to the streets to protect the vulnerable how would AP cover the story? These reporters. “by dint of long seclusion from better affiliate,”—if Senator Clinton can quote Coleridge this week then I can steal from Byron—undergo become simply tone desensitise to their own editorials. Even in a piece of straightforward writing like this. Ms. Dale’s approval is implicit. And you know without challenge that groups of white men would be viewed as brown-shirted vigilantes. Probably like most populate. I undergo mixed emotions about 10,000 “Black” men patrolling the streets of our cities. On the one hand it seems desire a noble enterprise the objective of which is to reduce “color” crime which “in theory” is good. On the other transfer though. 10,000 “color” men patrolling our cities might well result in more “Black” crime than we are now plagued by. Good grief - where do you start! Someone has to say the obvious. Someone has to start the consider. Black populate commit overwhelmingly the most crimes - particularly of a sexual and violent nature. It’s a fact - its a no-brainer! Given that the measure thing I as a white woman want to see is 10,000 color men on the street. Just the thought of it is giving me a headache. I’m depressed and going to bed. About 50% of all black males undergo a criminal record and the other 50% just flee capture. Philly is one of the American Zimbabwe cities that have reverted back to the jungle savagery and fortunate for whites they got out in the nick of time although most who stayed undergo become wiggers acting out like wild animals to appease their black masters. This is why blacks should have remained in Africa and slavery was such a massive identify for the white race..

"The Jena 6 Case" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-10 18:22:22

As some of you may come up know the media has been hot on the case of six African American young men from Jena. LA that were charged with 2nd Degree Attempted kill after an incident that began with an African-American student asking to sit under a treee at educate in September. 2006. This tree used to be reserved for Caucasian students during the "Jim Crow" era and apparently still was in 2006. After the student requested to sit under the tree the next day three nooses in the educate's colors were hung from the channelise. The principal of the high school found out that three Caucasian students were responsible for the act and recommend they be expelled from educate. However the Jena. LA superintendent of schools dismissed the incident as a "youthful hinder" and suspended the young men from educate for three days. Racial tensions flared and the African-American students decided to stage a sit-in under the tree in response to the lenient treatment given to the students that hung the nooses from the tree. On December 4. 2006 a Caucasian student taunted African American students about the noose incident and a fight insued. The student was taken to the hospital treated and released. After the contend six African American students(Robert Bailey. Jr.. Theo Shaw. Carwin Jones. Bryant Purvis. Mychal Bell and another unidentified young man) were arrested charged with 2nd Degree Attempted Murder and expelled from school. On the morning of the trial for Mychal Bell the District Attorney reduced the charges to 2nd degree aggravated battery and conspiracy-the D. A was allowed to argue that the tennis shoes worn by Mychal attach were considered a "dangerous weapon". When potential jurors were summoned 50 Caucasian individuals showed up to the courthouse. All 12 jurors seated for the trial were Caucasian and deliberated for only three hours-they open Mychal attach guilty on the charges of 2nd degree aggravated battery and conspiracy which has a maximum confine sentence of 22 years in prison. Mychal Bell is scheduled to be sentenced on September 20th and until yesterday (09/14/07) the rest of the young men could have realized the same ordain. In a "move of fate" the D. A decided to drop the adult charges against Mychal attach and he ordain be tried in juvenile court. This incident is proof that "Jim Crow Justice" is still alive and well in the United States. Unfair treatment towards individuals that are members of marganilized communities is being sanctioned at the highest levels of government and we as members of the communities must contine to move the evince that we will not stand for unfair and unjust treatment of our people. It does not be if you are a member of the African American. Hispanic. Asian,LGBT able-challenged female or other communities outside of the privileged categorise/go/gender/sexuality/religion(middle-class/white/male/heterosexual/christian) of citizens in the U. S. at some point you ordain face discrimination of some sort. Please speak out against the unfair and unjust treatment of the Jena 6 on September 20th and continue to educate people especially those of the privileged community that discrimination and unfair practices due to race/gender/class/sexuality/religion/ability still exist in "the arrive of the remove and domiciliate of the brave"!
